Posted - Aug 29 2020 : 11:09:33 AM Linda, if you go to the sign up list, you will see that Lynda did not sign up. If you want me to I can send you two more squares, but they will not be in your hands until you come back from vacation. Back when Darlene told us of the themes for each month...I looked through my stash, then I made orders for more fabrics. I cut and pressed and filled my envelopes. Then I put each set into a plastic bag. Later I eventually got stamps, enough for every swap through December and put return address labels on each envelope too! Then we got a few newbies, so I went thru and made envelopes for them too! So each month everyone who was in the original swap gets two squares from me. Silly??? I do not know, but I decided early on that to keep myself straight...it was best to do it this way. Because I drop every envelope in the mail box by our post office, at the same time and I drive away...knowing I don't have to worry about who I've mailed to and who I may have missed. I said back at the beginning that if someone could not participate one month, just consider my two squares a gift! No one has said they don't want them!

Posted - Aug 29 2020 : 09:44:21 AM Marie, Girlie is lucky to have you! These poor animals are so desperate for love and kindness. I was going to do volunteering at dog rescue sites but knew I would bring to many home. At my age it isn't smart to do! Instead I volunteer with people. I know I won't be bringing them home! LoL! Sweet Girlie. Kind Marie!

Posted - Aug 15 2020 : 06:40:13 AM Marie, Girlie is so Blessed to have the two of you in her life. My husband took Scruffy, our son's little dog. Our son went to look at his cows and found the small white dog sitting on a flat trailer. He called the man who owned the trailer to ask if be had forgotten his doggie. NO! So our son brought the doggie home and gave her a bath. She was covered with fleas. He loves her. But my hubby gave her treats and canned dog food. So she lives here. But on Sundays after we eat she sits in our son's lap and enjoys his attention. She has not forgotten that he rescued her. What I've learned by watching her: She does not like to be on the floor or ground...she will find a chair to sit in...above ground She is a dog in the manger...when fed she ignores her food, until Tillie or MR. Twister come close to her bowl. She always takes her jerky treat to lay it on the quilt bedspread or hide it under the pillow. Then she guards it, growling at anyone who comes into the room. She always sleeps a half hour later than anyone else. So Tillie must be let out early...then Later scruffy.

Posted - Aug 14 2020 : 11:56:34 PM Darlene, Girly came as a rescue from Arkansas. She is a mix of beagle and mountain feist. She had been in a crowded kennel where she got heart worm. We saw her thru the end of the disease. It took her 3 days to trust us. She must have been through a bad experience. She is a great hunter and I think that she is unafraid of the sound of guns. She cries when the land line rings and howls very deeply at sirens. She is anxious. At first, she barked at people and dogs from fear. Now, she is protective. She likes to get into bed and sleeps by my side. I love her very much.

Posted - Aug 14 2020 : 8:03:07 PM Marie, Girlie looks like a 13" Beagle. We raised beagles for years. We have 3 now. My husband's bunny dogs! My last house baby was so sweet and lovable. Beagles are very loyal and protective! Was yours a rescue? If so, do you have background on her? Just love her!

Posted - Aug 13 2020 : 3:09:16 PM Let me be clear. No residences were burned. The people in the camps were already in a camp in another part of the city.

Posted - Aug 13 2020 : 2:34:36 PM I pray that the folks who need a place to live ( those who had housing before the fires) have found shelter. It seems to me that the city could help those people, especially those with kids. Of course, I also think about the people who have so much...but do not like to share. Who needs more than one home? Who needs more than one or two vehicles? I've always thought that the world could be a better place if those who have so much would share with those who have so little.

Posted - Aug 13 2020 : 1:50:38 PM One of the camps was totally disbanded because of the large amount of crime in that area. The other camp has been limited to just a few tents. The parks are now giving permits to organizations which organize the various camps. Some camps are not permitted and, I guess, it is just being left that way. I do not know what has happened to the people. This information is not widely distributed. The temperature starts getting uncomfortably cold in November. Most people can stay warm with a tent and blankets even if they must move every few days. After the snow falls and the temperature drops below zero is when staying outside is dangerous. Homeless people do freeze to death in the winter here. Shelters are crowded and nasty. They kick people out in the morning and to get back in, it is first come first serve. There is almost no hope to improve one's housing situation especially if addiction is involved.

Posted - Aug 13 2020 : 1:19:32 PM She is cute and not very nice. She is anxious and has turned her fear into protection. She knows what a good life she has and she protects Lowell and I by barking at people. She's also pretty scared of both people and dogs. I am working with her and it is slow going. She is showing improvement. Now she trusts our neighbor across the hall. This has taken months of treats and special walks. I love her so much.
