Posted - Jun 15 2020 : 1:14:31 PM I received a wonderful Found Word Art ATC from Judith (stitchinwitch) a bit ago, and I was so inspired by it, I thought it would be fun to host a swap featuring this type of art.
You can see Judith’s work in the picture here (small section of a page from a book with chosen words boxed and the rest darkened with a marker), but word Art can also be made up of individually cut up words from different sources.
So this is my idea for this swap. Let’s create a small piece of Found Word Art to partially or wholly decorate a handmade postcard (any thick 4” x 6” piece of paper) or notecard cover (you can further decorate either any way you want), write a happy little note, and send it off to your partner. No tucks this time.
Your little poem or prose can have any theme, but let’s just keep it happy, positive, etc.
Sign- ups will be until June 30. Partners posted the 1st or 2nd (shooting for the 1st, but life is unpredictable). You will have to contact your partner for their address. Mail outs as soon as you can after partners are posted, but let’s set an end date of July 10.
Looking forward to your joining me!
OK, ladies, I drew names and here are our partners:
April (Dreamer42) and Ida (Ida Jane Rooney) Terri (Tchr66) and Jami (HunnysHen) Marie (churunga) and Dianna (suny58) Marilyn (TexasGran) and Judith (StitchinWitch) Vanessa (Audra Rose) and Alise
Have fun swapping! I look forward to seeing all your creative pieces!
Blessings to you on your life's journey.

Posted - Jul 20 2020 : 8:51:59 PM No, I am not helping. The effort is badly organized. I do not see much in the way of record keeping or inventory control or logistics support. I guess this is good as this is supposed to be a temporary solution.
There is a list of supplies with how many are needed and many of those have been filled. What most need is effective drug and alcohol counseling and jobs. Some in the camps have jobs and can't afford a place to rent. After the shooting last week in broad daylight with lots of witnesses, the number of tents have decreased dramatically. No news has come regarding what has happened to the people.
The people are inadvertent victims of the riots. We have had a homeless encampment for a couple years along one of the major thoroughfares to the east of our place. It happened to be in the vicinity of the burned police station. They were moved for their safety and temporarily placed in a hotel nearby. Rumors abounded about why they had to leave that shelter. Basically, the owner misunderstood how and when he would be paid and locked them out. The only alternative was to start an encampment in the closest park. Since then, camps have located in several other parks in the city. They have to be found some kinds of shelter before winter arrives.

Posted - Jul 20 2020 : 4:49:06 PM Deep.....and so true. Marie, are you going in and out of camps helping in some way? What do they need? Are these the victims of the riots?

Posted - Jul 20 2020 : 4:07:22 PM I was inspired by the Bob Dylan song "Blowin' in the Wind", the turmoil that happened here in Minneapolis and spread across the country and the problems people face in the homeless encampments and the sheltered world. I knew I wanted to make a double-sided card. I realized that problems as well as answers blow on the wind and we hear both there.

Posted - Jul 20 2020 : 1:39:22 PM There are always 2 sides to the story, 2 choices, good or bad, positive or negative, right or wrong. Marie, I loved your word art! Both sides are wonderfully crafted. Thank you. I've been re-reading them and will place this up on my China cabinet! Thank you as well as for the yummy teas you send me!! Praying it is cooling down a bit there!! Blessings!

Posted - Jul 17 2020 : 2:00:49 PM Thanks, Judith! That’s kind of you!
Yes, Dianna, I will try to pop in, as able, while I am busy. Getting to know people through these swaps is fun, and I would like to stay connected- hosting again is my bigger goal, though. (Sent you off a letter today!)

Posted - Jul 17 2020 : 08:53:35 AM OK, ladies, I see it is already the 17th of the month. And seeing how you all have liked this, it would be nice to continue. To have a new swap, I would normally ask for sign-ups between the 15th and 30th on a new thread. Glitch for you all is that I am going to be busy for I’m not sure how long, so... if someone would like to fill in hosting for a month (maybe two) to keep this alive, that would be great! Then hopefully I can jump back in later. No pressure on anyone, though! I am sorry to have to do this :( But, it will all work out as it should, right? Sure it will!
Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.

Posted - Jul 16 2020 : 09:36:58 AM Oh my - I received a beautiful surprise from April. Everything from the beautiful packaging to the thoughtful note was endearing.
Inasmuch as this was my first swap I was unsure what the expectations were. Upon seeing all that have been posted I see that each one expresses a unique personality and you just have to "believe" that what you create is exactly who you are. Thank you April !!! I LOVE this ~~
