Artist trading cards (ATCs) are miniature pieces of art that are traded around the world. Artists create, trade and collect art at organized "swap" events, either in person or online. The only official rule for ATCs is the size: 2.5" x 3.5". Artist Trading Cards are the same format as modern trading cards (hockey cards or baseball cards). Alternately you may choose to use a round ATC Coin of 2.5" diameter. They are self-made unique works or small series, signed and dated on the reverse by the artist/producer, exchanged and collected by the people who participate in the collaborative performance.
Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) are a conceptual art project initiated by the Swiss artist M. Vanci Stirnemann. He called it a Collaborative Cultural Performance. In 1997 he created 1200 cards by hand as part of an exhibit. On the last day, he invited others to create their own cards and trade with him during the closing reception. The movement took off, and today, there are ATC swaps in almost every major city around the world!
You can make ATCs with many different media including paper, fabric, felt, metal, wood, clay, paint, stamps, embellishments and more. There are tons of ideas and inspiration available online if you google ATC or Artist Trading Cards.

Received your package today, Marie. I love how you do double-sided ATC’s! And the star is so cool, too. Does that pattern have a name, or can I look up online somewhere how to fold one? I enjoy paper-folding as the inspiration strikes. And ground eggshells are great for plants. I have used them in the past, will gladly use your little packet. Thank you! Will pop your ATC in the mail tomorrow.  .

Will ya look at this? Cutest ATC and an amazing sweet swap from Joan!! I LOVE IT ALL so much Joan! You are quite talented!! Loved the little sewing angel pin, A CUPCAKE pincushion, purple hyacinth bean vine seeds, which I've planted red ones here and they are so pretty, and the little minis! I've an idea of what to use them for...thank you hon, for such a sweet package! You shouldnt have as the ATC is beautiful enough but thank you! I learn so much from you farmsisters!

Thank you for the kind words about my ATCs. I can hardly draw a straight line. I can cut and glue with the best of them.
The ATC on the right is from cutouts from a Jane Davenport paper.
The ATC on the left is from a newspaper. I loved the colors. I cut out small pieces. Put glue on both side and rolled the small pieces into flowers or leaves.
So many pretty ATCs on this month's swap.

What a tough news day yesterday, the images of protests and violence so close to home for so many! It was a relief to visit my mailbox yesterday and find Patsy's exquisite ATCs! Patsy, you are an amazing talent! My kids (both in their 20s) and I are trying to figure out your techniques, I am so inspired to learn more. Thank you for these works of art!

We've not had mail pick up or delivery for several days because of the unrest here in Minneapolis. I have asked my swappers not to send me anything until further notice. I don't want mail stuck in a post office that gets burned down.

Our mail has gone crazy. They were out here in the country last Sunday with one of their little mail vehicles. It was so full of packages there was hardly room for the driver! They now run a mail delivery person, and a package delivery person. So if the package delivery runs later in the day...your lonely package sits on top of the row of mail boxes, or it gets blown off by a gust of wind. So my neighbor and I try to help. I always call to tell them they have a box or boxes on top. One day a man was sitting on the guard rail by the creek.It was the neighbors husband! He was waiting for the mail. I told him that since it was noon, we probably need not worry until about three...sure enough.Normally it runs around 10:30. so he rode his bike back up the hill and home.
I would have been on the phone or at the post office with that wet package early that next Morning! How inconsiderate he was. UPS have packages in plastic have it it is raining.
