To anyone who is trying to reach me via email... I am not sure why but I am not receiving any emails from the farmgirl connection, I promise I am not ignoring my partners!

If anyone has any idea what I might need to do so that I receive my messages again I would appreciate your help! I am using yahoo.

Thanks!

Ah! I was just remembering I needed to post a follow-up here. I did manage to make the changes as described, and everything seems to work as expected afterwards. You can even reply to the message directly.

Hopefully you all find that to be as true. Please continue to let me know if not.

Thanks so much Gabe. I am excited that there is possibility of communication in the near future!!

I've been pointed to a notification from AOL regarding changes they made to their email services. It somehow or other disallows email being sent using AOL addresses unless those emails come from actual AOL servers and so on. So that may very well be the problem, or a part of it, especially if other email services have perhaps made similar changes.

That confirms a notion I had this morning about a simple improvement to the messaging system for alleviating the problem of not knowing who the sender will be. I would change it so all messages are sent using a MaryJanesFarm address. The chatroom member's email is already included in the body of the message, if needed for manual copy and paste, but I should also be able to fill out a reply-to field for each of the emails with the address of the chatroom user.

That way everyone can still reply to the message directly and the messages will never come back to me (because I don't need to become an email forwarding service! ;) ); and our address can be added to any whitelist or approved senders list for your email account, to avoid any potential issues with spam filters seeing our notifications as spam because they're from unfamiliar senders.

I don't see any technical issues with the chatroom itself. I've been able to send test messages, and I've been getting subscriptions to topics throughout the day (and the previous week or two).

However, both of the messages I sent had to be pulled out of our spam filter. Plus, I see that all the particular instances here are using either Yahoo or AOL. Those services could have some particular obstacles to receiving our messages. I'm sure they constantly update or modify their filtering algorithms.
Both of those things together with everything seeming to work normally when I test, make me think it has to be a problem with getting the message actually delivered, which I pretty much have no control over.

I can't have you all whitelist a single address for the chatroom, because the messages are sent as though from the individual user. So, they could look like they're coming from anyone. That doesn't help with spam filters at all.

It could be that I can revise the messages somehow, so they aren't as plain and spam-looking. That could help.

It could also be that there are issues with some messages and notifications not sending because of general slowness on our server at times... but that should be more sporadic, and not as constant a failure as it sounds like some of you are experiencing.

I'll keep a lookout, but I don't see any cause on my side of it yet.

Hi folks. As near as I can tell (and anyone reading this can tell) some of the emails are getting through while others are not. Our webmaster Gabe is not in the office this week and I'm sorry to report that this looks like something that he will have to really dig into. I lack the technical expertise to get into our chat room's email protocol and see what's happening. This is something that Gabe will be looking at as soon as he gets back to the office.

In the meantime, If there is time-sensitive information that you need to email to other chat room members you can email me (brianogle@maryjanesfarm.org). Let me know WHO (username) you want to receive the message and WHAT you want to say. I can manually look up their email and send it through to them. It will be clunky, but it could get the job done during the week.

Feel free to contact me if you need anything else. I'm subscribed to this thread so I can get back to you through here, or via email.

Thanks!

~Brian

Sarah,
I have Hotmail and had a lot of problems with it. I had to start using a gmail account and this did help. Just a suggestion. It was a pain to have to do it.
Hope you can figure it out!!
Take Care

Hi Brian,

I got your messages and responded to them both. Not sure why I can get yours and not others?

Thanks so much for looking into this, let me know if you have any suggestions.

Sarah, Kelly, Marcy and Jennifer. I sent each of you an email through the chat room. Can you let me know if it arrived or not? I tried sending an email through the chat room to a different account and that one went through. I'm sure we can figure out what is happening.

Can all of you also do me a favor? Can you send me an email through the chat room just saying "hi" so that I can see on my end how it is working too?

Thanks,

~Brian

Hi Sarah,

Yes, my address is the same. I was thinking maybe we can find a third person who we can email not on the forum and you can send me your address that way. I have looked everywhere (I KNOW I saved your address somewhere) but I can't find it. I even thought about leaving my email here on the board but I don't want to take a chance. Thanks for being patient with all of this. I save every scrap of farm girl mail I receive and so I will look again.

hugs,
Marcy

I to am having problems getting my emails. I checked my junk mail as well and nothing. My swap partner has emailed me a few times and still nothing :(
mrssarahhall Posted - Jun 02 2014 : 06:37:28 AM
Hi Marcy,

Has your address changed since the Christmas Countdown swap? If not, I will go ahead and mail yours out, and put my address inside the package. We will just have to trade addresses the "old timey" way. :) Thanks for being patient.

I emailed Brian over the weekend to see if he might know what I can do to resolve this issue... I will let you know what he says.

Hope all is going well with you and your family and your furry friends too. :)

Sarah,

As you know, I am having the same problem as well. I have checked my junk mail and it is not showing up there either. Please don't worry about our swap being a little late. We will get this figured out!!

big hugs

I suggest you send an email to Brian at the farm . . .he can probably check it out for you and he's very good and helpful. It may be Monday before he can do anything about it, but his email is: brianogle@maryjanesfarm.org

Hope that helps!
