Last year I hosted this swap. My first swap ever. Let's try it again. This swap is a way to participate in 'The America Goes Red Challenge' to become more aware of women's heart disease. Check out women's heart info. So vital to our health. The sign ups begin today through Feb. 15th. Partners posted Feb. 16th. Mail outs Feb. 28. Request one or two partners. The photos must be black and white, before 1960, 4 in. by 6 in. and decorated in red. No clip art or magazine copies. Photos can be some of your own or someone else's. I like postcards that I have or purchased in antique shops or trades days. Write on the back of your photo the birth and death of the person and a little note about them if you know them. If you do not know the identity of the person say so and where you purchased the photo or postcard. On page 6 of the Farmgirl Swap page you will find under Ladies' Vintage Photo Swap Partners Posted some pictures of last years photos and chatter among several farm girls. The picture I posted is one of the postcards that I purchased from my favorite antique mall in Muenster, Tx. No info on back. She looks like a sea faring farm girl that I would love to have as a friend. Hope you join. So much fun. Hugs,

.JPG) Patsy and Connie, Thank-you so much for the pictures - they came a day apart and are now displayed in my living room -they are beautiful. The two pictures from Patsy include Eliza from England - she was my age now in 1925 when the picture was taken - she has such a kindly face. How hard it must have been to have relatives in America or if she was actually in America - leaving behind her homeland. The second is of a lovely young lady in white contemplating a bouquet of flowers. She has a ring on her ring finger so do you think she might be a young bride? Connie's are relatives, her Great Grandmother Nora in front of the Pink Palace in Memphis - she was a widow who farmed with the help of her 7 children. The second is of her mother Mary and friend Brenda in those lovely full skirted 1950s dresses. What wonderful family pictures and so nice to know the stories behind them. I often had lemon cokes in our local drugstore. I really enjoyed this swap - A picture is worth a thousand words and these woman all look so capable and secure in their time periods. Thank-you Patsy for organizing this (and thanks for the bright red socks and mints - they will jolt me into spring! Becky |

Posted - Mar 07 2014 : 10:11:37 PM Connie, Your two beautiful cards arrived today. I love how you decorated the cards including the insides but even more I love the stories about your Great Grandmother and your mom, Mary and her best friend in 1954, Brenda, who is still her best friend today. Your Great Grandmother was a brave and amazing woman to raise 7 children and run a farm by herself for all the years after her husband died. Loved hearing about her trip to the "Pink Palace" built by the owner of the Piggly Wiggly grocery stores. Amusing story about your mom wanting a Leslie Caron short haircut so much that she talked her grandfather into cutting it short at his barber shop even though he knew your grandmother would not be pleased! You did a fantastic job on this year's vintage photos and heart health cards!

Here is another picture Becky sent to me. She wrote the following on the back of the picture.
This lady was in a box of pictures at a yard sale. (Ashville,Oh). I keep looking and I think she has wire rim glasses like mine. I am fascinated by the fashion too-all the layers. I assume she lives on a farm or has farming connections as my area was and mostly is large farms with little towns for retired farmers

Here is one of the pictures that Beth sent to me. On the back is written a beautiful tribute to her Mother.
This is a picture of my mother Irma (far right). She is celebrating receiving her black ribbon (on cap) which denotes Senior status. She is with her best friends and roommates at Ohio State University -either 1942 or '43. She is descended from a family of farmers. She sold apples and produce in downtown Columbus when she was young. My grandfather had an orchard, chickens, and truck garden - and eight children. My mother turns 91 at the end of Feb. She tells us many stories of her OSU days. During the war years no one had much money they shared clothes and food and had great times. She married my father in '45 - a veterinarian student. Her first job was on the Polio wards during an epidemic. My father retired at age of 86 from a large animal practice. We had a flock of sheep growing up. Mom handled the phone and assisted in operations and raised four children. I live on one corner of their small farm. My mother and her friends were a great models for myself and my sisters. She worked hard to go to college but never let lack of money hold her back!

Karla...thank you so much for this interesting picture and story of your husbands Great Aunt Mary Ada West. She was quite a marvel being born with no arms but learning to do everything with her feet. From playing the Banjo with her toes to diapering babies and cooking. It is so sad that she died at the young age of 25 from pneumonia. Thank you for sharing her story. I plan to share this with my Bible Study Group because we are all about what God can do in a Woman's life and heart.
Your picture is on the way. Thanks for a great Swap!
Blessings and Hugs, Peggy

Yes, Emma was a perfect farmgirl in her day but lots of hardship and sorrow along the way but that is part of life too and she remained cheerful and an optimist at the end of the day. Thanks for posting Becky's vintage ladies photos. I love how she decorated them. Patsy, you came up with a wonderful idea and I hope we can continue this swap for a long time!

Becky, Thank you!! I love your pictures! Those ladies got that waist tight! I like you, would love to see what color that dress was! I love the picture with your Mom, Irma , with her friends. (she is on the far right) She is soooo beautiful has a beautiful smile! and still going at 90. having your mom and Dad both in their 90's! you are so blessed! WONDERFUL!! Isn't that so fabulous that you have their college stories to pass on!! and yes I grew up the same way, not much money, but taught to work hard ,and be proud at the end of the day of what you can accomplish!
I so loved your card! The paper reminded me of a Easter dress I had when I was about 7, that was Yellow dotted Swiss fabric.
I will be mailing mine out Thursday.
