Posted - Oct 13 2013 : 8:23:04 PM So, I love making all kinds of things... but the one thing that I use to do with my mom was make country dolls and primitive dolls. Sadly my mom passed away in 2009. It's taken me a long time to start doing that particular craft again and I here I am making them again like crazy & every one that I finish, I just smile and sit and look at for a second and wonder what she would say.
So, here's my thought. Who would be interested in a doll swap? Country, Primitive, Crocheted... whatever your heart desires to make! Just so it's a doll and you made it! If you girls are interested... let me know!

Posted - Oct 18 2013 : 07:16:15 AM Thanks so much Marie! I found a really cute felt doll pattern online the other night. I prefer to work with felt if I am sewing, so I may use that pattern, but if I decide to be more adventurous in February Marie, I may need to borrow one of your books! :)

Posted - Oct 17 2013 : 11:22:01 AM Great!! I'll put a note on my board to start this swap in February.... and I'll mark all you girls in! :) But I'll send you all a little note in february too, just to make sure you are still up for it. .... Marie, thank you for sending that info to Sarah, I could try to tell you some tips Sarah, but I just wing it as I go along lol ;) I try to follow patterns, but most of the time, they always end up just a little bit different :) The crochet stuff though, is right down your ally!! I just havent gotten the hang of the amigurmi yet, I have seen so many little creatures made in that way I would love to have, I just try and end up with it in a knot! :)

Posted - Oct 16 2013 : 08:02:03 AM Sarah,
I have several books on making dolls. They are
Creepy Cute Crochet: Zombies, Ninjas, Robots and More by Christen Haden Crobots: 20 Amigurumi Robots to Make by Nelly Pailloux
Both of these are Amigurumi books. They take very little yarn and work up quickly.
Stupid Sock Creatures: Making Quirky, Lovable Figures for Cast-off Socks by John Murphy
This one is really neat. It is a really good way to up cycle orphaned or tattered socks.
Creative Crocheted Dolls: 50 Whimsical Designs by Noreen Crone-Fidlay
This book has a basic doll, doll furniture and clothes. This author treats doll making as an art.

Posted - Oct 15 2013 : 3:24:16 PM I'll wait till February to do the swap... that way we are all past the holidays :) Madeline... as long as it's a doll!! You can do what you would like with it!! :) So Sarah... if you don't do sewing or have never made a doll, you can take one and just do what you would like to it... like an altered doll :)

Posted - Oct 14 2013 : 2:48:22 PM Sounds like something I would be interested in. Could we remake dolls, making them our own or do they have to be from scratch ?

This sounds like fun! But I have never made a doll before. Any tips for a beginner? Let me know when you would want to do this swap - it might be hard for me to do before December with school...

Posted - Oct 14 2013 : 06:29:27 AM I know what you mean! My mom used to crochet little dishcloths-I can make them now, but I have to knit them...can't quite crochet them. I inherited the antique doll collection my grandmother started. It was passed down to my mom, to me and it will go to my daughter and hopefully her daughter one day. A doll swap sounds lovely, but I agree with Beth about the time frame. Maybe a little later in winter when we are all climbing the walls looking for a good project?? LOL
Great idea! Keep us posted! |

Posted - Oct 14 2013 : 04:22:01 AM I would be, but it will have to be later in the year, say December or even January. Going to visit my grandbabies for 3 weeks and have other swaps to finish. Sounds like a great idea! Smiles, Beth
