Posted - Sep 15 2012 : 8:02:38 PM Hi girls! I'm so excited! Our little swap is now under way!!!
I just emailed all of you with the contact information for your partners. Please confirm that the addresses are all correct (just in case), okay? And if for some reason you did not receive my email, please contact me right away and I'll resend it - not a problem at all!
Here are the partners:
Nancy (aka Annielaurel) and Linda (aka Hummingbirdjoy) Maddie (aka fille de ferme) and Lesley (aka erowease) Portia (aka ptroupe) and Anne (aka annemary) Becky (aka Becky 2002) and Me/Nini (aka Ninibini)
Remember:
- Tins should be mailed out to your partner by October 15th.
- If anything happens and you cannot mail them out in time, or for some reason you cannot meet your commitment, please contact me right away! No worries - I'm easy! Things happen - I understand! I just want to be sure everyone's covered, that's all!
- I'm here if you need me. Please contact me with any questions or concerns, okay? :)
Thanks so much! Can't wait to see all of our creations!
Nini
------------------------------------------------------
Okay girls - I just love these, don't you? If you haven't seen them, just do a quick online search under "altered Altoid tin," and you'll fined oodles of inspiration!!!
Basically, you take an empty Altoid tin, and alter it inside and out using your favorite papers, paints, fabrics and embellishments. The outside should be intriguing - kind of like a book cover, it should be something that makes you just want to pry the tin open to see what's inside. Inside you might do a scene or saying on the lid, and some sort of mini 3D panorama in the "mint" part using pop-dots and cut-outs, perhaps, or any other little trinkets and images of choice... Cover the sides, too, maybe with ribbon or gimp or paint or glitter or something else fancy. And then finish off the back with something special - just be sure to include your Farmgirl name, your real name, where you live, the date and the swap name! You can get as creative with this as you want - there are no rules, really. Just have fun with it - let your creative juices flow!
The theme is Autumn - the possibilities are endless! To help inspire your partner, let us know your favorite things about fall... Maybe it's pumpkins and leaves or apples or cider or pie or black cats or big, smiling blue moons or jack o'lanterns or skeletons or turkeys or pilgrims or...well, you get the idea! :) And if there's something you really don't like, she'll want to know that, too. We just want everyone to be happy and really enjoy themselves with this!
So... are you in? Gosh, I hope so!!!
- Sign ups will end October 6th.
- When signing up, please email me with your contact information so I have it ready to go. And again, be sure to tell us your fall favorites and dislikes.
- Please understand you CANNOT sign up for another Farmgirl. All Farmgirls MUST sign up for themselves and email me personally.
- PLEASE NOTE: I would love to include ALL Farmgirls, but please realize that it may be difficult for me to partner Farmgirls who reside outside of the USA due to the additional cost and paperwork involved. I know this is a sensitive subject, and I don't want anyone to be disappointed, but, but this is definitely an issue I've encountered with past swaps, so I have to address it in advance. I hope you understand. I will gladly accept sign-ups from Farmgirls residing outside of the USA, but please know that your participation in this swap will be contingent upon finding a willing partner, okay?
- Having said that, please let me know when you sign up whether or not you will be willing to partner with someone outside of the USA, okay?
- Partners will be assigned by October 8th. I'll post the partners list here, and email you directly with your partner's contact information.
- Altered tins are to be mailed out by October 15th, so if you get started now, you'll have a whole month to finish your project and get it out to your partner in time! Let those creative juices start flowin', girlfriends!
- REALLY, REALLY, REALLY IMPORTANT: If for ANY reason something happens and you cannot fulfill your commitment, PLEASE just contact me so I can cover your partner, okay? I'm easy - nothing to fear! We all understand things happen, don't worry. But we also really don't want anyone hanging in the balance, so just email me as soon as you realize there's a problem and I'll take care of it. It's just the right Farmgirl thing to do!
Okay - so that's it!!! Oh man! I am really getting excited about this! I can't wait to get started! Hope you're ready to go, too! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask! That's what I'm here for!
Happy crafting!

Posted - Oct 25 2012 : 7:01:28 PM Oh! SO glad you got it and liked everything, Becky! :)
Please try to post pics of the tins you've received so everyone can enjoy them - AND to help inspire others to join the next swap!
'Just want to show you girls the outside of the tin, too, so that others who might be interested in joining the Christmas tin swap will have a few more ideas:
This is the top outside:
And this is the bottom outside:
I used a very thin ribbon to edge the top edge and a wider ribbon to cover the bottom edge. You don't have to use ribbon, though - you can ink it, paint it, paper it, use lace, or even leave it in its original condition - whatever you like!
I don't know about all of you, but I always seem to start with an idea in mind, but it always seems to take on a life of its own! This wasn't what I had planned at all, but when I found some cards with the Peanuts on it, I just couldn't resist!
I'm with you, Linda - I am really enjoying seeing everyone's creations! Such fun! I hope we'll have even more join us for the Christmas one! :)
Hugs -

Posted - Oct 25 2012 : 6:13:10 PM Loved Maddie's tin, so clever making it look like a book on the outside and then the rich gold Autumn look inside. Becky, the tin you got from Nini is so adorable. Love those cute little Charlie Brown character's dressed up for Halloween and looks like she didn't forget the treats either! I've enjoyed seeing and hearing about everyone's creativity making these tins. Can't wait to get started on my Christmas one.

I have never uploaded a picture before so I hope this works. This is the Peanut and gang tin I received from Nini along with a treasure trove of candy, cupcake papers, a It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown book and decorating sugars. The tin has all of the Peanut characters collaged in Halloween costumes. It was a really neat surprise to come home to. (I had been away for 10 days.) I'll have to get busy baking cupcakes. Thank-you very much Nini- this was a fun project! Becky |

I love my wonderful tin! Thank you so much. It was so precious and I loved all the fall goodies in it. Also, the candy was delish! I am a pig---it is already gone!!! I love chocolate, toffee, and almonds, so you chose the right one. Your fall card was so sweet, too. Please forgive me for not writing sooner (I have had it a couple of days), but my MIL has been here for several weeks and I was getting her ready to fly back home. Again, thank you so much.
Hugs, Portia

Posted - Oct 20 2012 : 10:45:46 AM You're welcome Nancy. I have a box of buttons and some vintage scatter pins missing the backs and the owl looked like a perfect size to perch in that tin. Love the inspiration this exchange gave me. Loved the pics of Lesley's tin and Autumn setting.

Posted - Oct 18 2012 : 05:27:17 AM Linda, thank you so much for the really cute altoid tin. I smiled so much when I opened it and saw the autumn setting. I put it up on my counter in my family room so all who come over can enjoy and appreciate all the work you did on it. I put it right next to my big yellow-orange pumpking.
Thanks for the extras, too.
Hugs,
Nancy

Posted - Oct 17 2012 : 6:53:10 PM Nancy, thank you so much for the sweet sewing kit in the altered altoid tin. What a neat idea, I'll be carrying it in my purse. So pretty how you put the pink and purple trim on the front with the barn embellishment. What a unique hand sewn bag too! I adore the sweet hankerchief that was tucked in the envelope also. Thanks Nini for hosting this fun swap!

Posted - Oct 17 2012 : 02:23:07 AM Hi Lesley :) I am so glad the tin made it to you safely. I hope it doesn't smell like glue ? It gave me fits to make, LOL I tried my best to get rid of that aroma ;) E 6000 would not work, so I had to pull out the Big Gun, Goop, it never fails me :) I played with that tin, opening it & shutting it at least 50 times, to make sure it would open easily & not fall apart LOL. I will post when yours arrives ;)

Posted - Oct 16 2012 : 5:04:54 PM Hi girls! Just wanted to share with you the awesome tin Becky made for lucky farmgirl me!!!
As Becky explains in her note, "I came back to trying to illustrate one of my favorite poems. My family has always read James Whitcomb Riley - the Goblins and the Bear Story are our favorites... The picture on the lid is Orphan Annie - inside the front is a government house built in FDR's New Deal. They bought out farmers on "bad land" and gave them a house, barn and acreage. There were two styles of houses, but they all had the same barn. The bottom picture is of a barn where my Dad, a large animal vet, used to deliver calves. There is hardly any livestock in our area anymore - all soybeans, corn or wheat..."
Now isn't that simply one of the coolest notes accompanied by pictures?! I just love it - Thank you, Becky! It's a true treasure that I will surely enjoy for a lifetime! I'll be sure to keep your card close to share the story with family and friends, too.
Thanks so, so very much - again - for all the thought and heart you put into this amazing little work of art, Becky!

I am so plesed you liked everything. Yes, I did make the magnets (out of bottle caps) and the tin was not actually an Altoid, but another one I found in a store in town. Hope the wedding went well. Also, glad the package arrived even with the partially incorrect address.

Posted - Oct 13 2012 : 08:34:12 AM Hi Portia,
My beautiful tin arrived yesterday (with no problems on the delivery). You found a huge altoid tin! I love the marbled paint and all of the magnets are wonderful, did you make them? My mom is visiting and liked the magnets, too. Thank you, also, for the card and candy you tucked inside the tin. Did you happen to take pictures? If not, I'll take some with my phone and post in a few days. As you know I have company right now and a wedding to attend today, but I wanted to make sure you knew it arrived safely and that I really enjoyed everything!!
Farmgirl hugs,
~Anne
