Hi all,
I was thinking it might be fun to do a Farmgirl Egg Swap!
Is there any interest out there in trading some fertile eggs? Chicken, Duck, etc. Please let me know if you would like to participate and what you could offer in trade/what you'd like to receive in return.
This is an oddball swap idea, I know... Just thought it would be worth asking :)

It's a myth that fertile eggs have blood spots. The blood spots are when something extra gets into the egg during a hen's natural egg development process. The reason your supermarket eggs don't have any is they are run through a computer and any that have a blood spot are rejected.
Fertile eggs have a white target-like spot on the surface of the yolk. That's how you can tell :)

Thanks Natalie. I won't be swapping because my eggs come from the supermarket. And just a hint of blood in an egg makes me want to throw up. Its odd but I have to not think about what I am eating when I do have eggs. But roast chicken, turkey or duck...Yummmy.
How long does it take before they hatch?? This is a very cool idea. I can't wait for the photos. Best of luck to all you ladies. I will check back every once in a while to updates and Photos!!!

Hahah yes, Kathy :) We will mail eggs to each other for hatching :) You wrap them in bubble wrap and pack them tightly with a variety of packing materials. I'll make a little tutorial for those who do the swap so we all have a good chance of getting unbroken eggs on the other side of USPS :)

Ok...help me out with this. You all are going to mail each other eggs??? How does that work. They will hatch to be chicks, ducks or turkey?? Please post photos. I would love to see this.

Already looking for coop matrials and another incubator. May take awhile. Still haying season. Lots of time for mind to wander while in the field. Making bird plans. Winter coming on and have to be resonable about how many to feed and keep warm.

Trish! I would so love some Wheatons. Linc isn't that tall, though! Wow... that's at least, what, 3 feet??? Geez! That's one big ol' bird ya got there! Is he nice to your hens?
Reb- I signed up for a swap on BYC and I now have BOTH bators at capacity! LOL Soooooo I can send you eggs whenever you are ready and let you know when I have room? What would you like?

Beautiful chickens! I need to build another cage. Fox carried off my two Bantees. Willing to ship a few gold laced wyndottes n expect nothing in return. Could throw in a few quail too.

I didn't think that anything hatching could be more exciting than chickens, but jeez. I LOVE TURTLES.

I need to correct my last entry. The turkeys are Burbon Reds. I would like to swap as I get room in incubator. We have a few weeks left on this last batch of quail. I can ship out gold laced Wyndotts and some quail in about a week. Interested?

I would love to try this next year. As luck would have it my incubator is busy with box turtle eggs right now, which take somewhere around 90 days and we are on day four. I think it is a very cool swap though.

This is our first Year with the quail. Yes eat them and their tiny eggs. Going to try to pickle some. Just received gold laced wyndott chicken eggs n hatched a half dozen. More available. I am amazed that more people havent responded to this idea.

Yes! Woo hooo fantastic idea! I have never shipped eggs but my boyfriend has ordered them before. I am mostly interested in game birds. But will enjoy chickens, ducks, and well..... ok....I am a bird junky! Girls, what do you have? Right now have Coturnix and button quail ready to hatch. We let peacocks sit on their own eggs and this morning are watching four of the little guys following momma in the pen. The quail are producing nicely so those are what I am offering at this time. More to come. Great idea. Thanks for tossing it out there. Please note I access my internet about once a week or so.

Sounds great, Kristen :) I got my hatcher incubator (older used one) from eBay. I use a Genesis 1588 w/ Autoturner as my main bator, and I use the older one for hatching when I have mult. hatch days :)
