T'was the night before the Midsummer Ball and all the faeries were busy putting the last touches to the outfits they planned to wear. When....

They realize that they had forgotten to make faerie shoes to go with their beautiful dresses.....Oh, what would they do?

Then Gossamer Silverglitter (that's Ashley's faerie name) suggested a faerie shoe swap....

Gossamer Silverglitter started with a baby shoe...

Added some cardboard to make the flippy toe. She then Mod Podged a layer of paper and a layer of fabric to create her faerie shoe...

Gossamer Silverglitter then began adding sparkely treasures and lace found around our crafting area...

The day of the ball, Gossamer Silverglitter ran around with no time to spare, looking for that one gem that would set her shoe apart from the rest. She already had flowers and sparkles galore, but wanted something much, much more. She couldn't quite put her finger on what her shoes lacked, when all of a sudden she eyed what her shoes had to have. It was a dainty lost earring that had no use, with emerald stones and one white too. She carefully placed it on the center of her shoe, and hoped her fellow faeries would like it too.

Beaded rope fancied up the sides of the shoe...

And a lil' found piece of measuring tape defined the heel...

Oh what a fun swap this was to do. What do you think of Gossamer Silverglitter's first attempt at a homemade faerie shoe?

Have a good day!

Being Swedish, when my daughter was growing up she left rice pudding out for the Tomte on Christmas Eve instead of Cookies for Santa. The Tomte, if given rice pudding, will watch over all of your farm and farm animals for the nexst year. In our case, he would also watch over all the animals in our woods since she had many imaginary animal friends in the woods she played in.

I too think your shoe is absolutely wonderful!

Aw, Joey! What a wonderful tradition to share with the little ones in your life! I love it! I wish I had a little girl to share that with... My son would NOT have enjoyed that at all. Instead, we set a little trap for the "wiley little leprechaun" on the evening before St. Patrick's Day each year. Those were some fun memories, too! Hugs - Nini

We take faries VERY seriously in my house and my faries would love those shoes. I read this in a magazine when my 9yo GD was very little and we've always done it for her...on 6/21 ("fairy night") we go outside for a walk and to take the fairies the little things we have been collecting for them..a bottle cap, empty, piece of ribbon, etc. and we leave them for the fairies. Inreturn, sometime during the night the fairies come and take all their presents and leave Brook (and now Katie too) a gift and a note..it is usually her favorite candy or fancy shoelaces or something. She keeps all her notes and has them in a special box. In the magazine, the woman had a neighbor make ice cream sundies and left them on the porch while they were out for their walk. It's a really cute tradition.
Also, if you REALLY love faries, you can make and be your own. Disney has a free game that you can play on the computer where you make your own fairy and then can fly around the lands and play games and collect items, and do quests for badges. If you want to pay a monthly fee (about $6.00) you can make clothes and things for your fairy house, etc. The 9yo and I have been playing this at least weekly for almost 2 years. You can set the controls to who can talk to you. There are girl fairies and boy faries. We REALLY enjoy the game and I learn what is going on with the GD who lives 6oo miles away. You can make 3 fairies. The website is www.pixiehollow.go.com
If you get into the game, my fairy names are Chestnut Fireglow and Coconut Seaspray. If you see me around the hollow, please come and be my friend. I know GD and I will be playing tomorrow so you might see us. Have fun, Joey

Oh ! Michelle, My goodness that is the cutest shoe :)I have to try & make one :) I checked on my fairy name it is Columbine Goblinwand. I bring riches & wealth, live in mushroom fields & quiet meadows, only seen when the seer holds a four leaf clover. I wear lilac & purple & have gentle green wings like a butterfly ;) Here is the scary part as a youngster I wore only lilac & purple. I LOVE mushrooms, could eat them all day. I used to hunt for four leaf clovers, had 20 at one time & last but not least I love to hike in the quiet meadows, pull out my sketch pad & draw. :) Too scary, don't you think ? :)We need to do a shoe swap & decorate our shoes like our description in fairy land & swap with a partner,of course we must include our fairy name & our real name. ;)Just an idea :)

Blessings

Love the names, girls!!!

My faerie name is Cherry Icefilter... I protect the vulnerable and brings justice to the wronged... I live in fruit orchards and vineyards... I am only seen on midsummer's eve... I wear red, cerise and purple berry colours and has icy blue butterfly wings. :)

I sure think this would be a fun swap... sure do... really, really do... hint... hint... hint.... ;)

Absolutely beautiful, Futters! Loved your tale and faerie names. Of course, I had to find my fairie name. Went to the site you suggested: Bindweed Saturntree "lives at the bottom of tangled gardens and in hedgerows." (How did they know?)lol. Thanks for sharing. I too hope their will be a swap at MJF.

Wha! Whaa! I want one!!!

Gossamer Silverglitter that is the most beautiful shoe
I have ever seen. Almost too beautiful to describe.

I am almost 60, am I too old to be a faerie? There
must surely be a need for grandmother faeries? Truly
it is a shoe to be proud of and one that must be displayed
in a very special place for all to see. More beautiful than
Cinderella's glass slipper.

I will only have the luxury of dreaming of such a shoe in my closet.

Gossamer Silverglitter, I bid you a goodnight full of sweet dreams.
Off to bed I go to dream of such a beautiful shoe. (Only after I
soak in a vat of oil-olay) :)

Do you think there might be shoe faeries hiding in my closet?

If so, count me in on the faerie shoe swap. What a fun swap this could be.
