Hi All!
Twenty years ago, I participated in a snail-mail creative writing novel swap. Here's what it is. One person starts the book, with anywhere from one paragraph to one page. It is mailed on to the next person, who adds on to what the previous person wrote, mailed to the next person, etc until eventually it comes full circle with an ending to the story. I really enjoyed it but never knew what happened to the book after I mailed by portion on. I wondered if anyone would like to do this? Its a great way to practice your creative abilities and you never know how the story will turn out as you pick up where the last person left off and add your "chapter" or even just a paragraph. Maybe if it comes full circle, it could be published in MJF! This is best done by snail mail, also, and you would have to sign your part, etc before mailing it on to the next person. If enough gals show an interest, I'd love to start this! Maybe we should keep it as a "country-themed" novel?

An update, I had been down with strep for a week, better now : ) I am in process of creating the first few pages I have scenarios running through my mind for the story. If anyone has a real or imagined scenario, short and sweet, maybe we can weave it in..ideas needed! Then I will get it typed up and enroute to the first circle author.

Hi Ladies - I'd like to back out of this...just feeling like there is a bit too much on my plate :) Joyce
valleygal Posted - Mar 10 2011 : 1:28:53 PM
I think the story should be wrote in the first-person style, that is where "you" are the story-teller conveying your own (imaginary or in reference to your own life) thoughts on paper as the "character". Sometimes this style is easier to work with. What do you think, opinions?

..looks like I need spell-check, lol! Another guideline is to keep the book mailed in an 8 1/2 by 11 manila envelope. Also, the name came from "craftystranger". Thanks again!

Writers Guidelines for Traveling Book (Thanks for the title of "traveling book", it's a great name!)

1. The portion you will write can be a minimum of one page or a maximum of unlimited.
2. Add your portion on seperate paper, but number you pages according to the last number

of the last persons part. For example, if the first person ended with page 3, you would begin

page 4.
3.Your portion can be handwritten, as long as it is legible, or word processed.
4. Please make sure your name and address are attached to your wriiten work, and the date.
5. Maximum of keeping the traveling book for two weeks before sending it on to the next

person, to allow time for your writing.
6. A list of names and addresses will be enclosed with the book. Cross out the person you

are sending the book to, so the next person knows who to send it on to. Be sure the

address list moves on with the book.
7.The book may circle two or three times, or even more, depending on how long it gets and

you may add abother portion, picking up where the last person left off.
8. You don't have to be a noviced writer to join in, just a creative imagination and spell check

if you need to!
9. Don't worry about chaptering it right now.

Ok, if anyone needs clarification, let me know!
