Posted - Apr 02 2010 : 08:34:07 AM Round Robin (Please read the entire directions posted here) sign up ends April 15, 2010 This will be a de-centralized swap: This means you will send your work to one person each month. You will send an email each month letting me and your partner know that you’ve mailed the quilt. Do not be intimidated by all these rules; read them carefully and you will be fine. If you have any questions, be sure to ask. All levels of skill are welcome to participate. But please do your best work. I am sure you would not want a messy lumpy uneven quilt back either. I will not guarantee the happiness of each swapper, but I will do my best to ensure a successful swap. If you decide to participate, note that this is a multi-month commitment. Do not join if you are not able to follow through! To join the swap you must reply to this post and let me know you want to join. Then you need to also e-mail me the following information by clicking on my forum name to the left, khartquilt, and then select send e-mail. Send me your full name, forum name, your mailing address, and e-mail address. Please also send me a phone number where you can be reached, which I will only use if we don’t hear from you for a while. Be assured I will not give it to anyone else. Then I will add you to the swap. Depending on how many participants we have, I will, if necessary, divide the group into smaller units—after all signups are in. I would like to have groups of 5 or 6 participants, depending on how many people sign up. Mailing date for this swap will be the 25th of each month, beginning May 25th. If this day falls on a weekend, please mail on the next available weekday. Also, please ship priority mail, two day service, and pay the extra for a tracking number. And of course if you are finished before this date, go ahead and send it along early. Specific Rules: 1. Once the signups are in, I will send each person a list of all the quilters and who you will be sending the package to. Actually, you will be sending to the same person each month. Each quilt will travel round in a circle until it comes back to you. (Round Robin!) 2. Each quilter is to prepare a center block or medallion. This can either be a pieced block, an appliquéd block, a single piece of fabric or panel—pretty much anything you want. I’m not going to limit the size, but try to keep it no bigger than 20 -24 inch square. 3. Also enclose a small notebook. (Don’t use something too big. Only 4 or 5 other ladies will be adding to it). Put your name, address and your Farm Girl forum name inside the cover. On the first page, tell us something about yourself and what you’d like done to your center block. Do you like or dislike certain types of fabrics (e.g., 30s prints)? Do you want like specific style of borders (e.g., pieced, appliqué)? Where will the quilt be used? As a wall hanging? As a Throw? How big do you want it to be when it’s finished? Or, do you want us to use our imagination and create what we feel you will like. 4. You may want to enclose a quilt label that each one of us can sign. But you don’t have to. That is up to you. 5. When you receive your package, read the notebook. Get to know the owner of the center block. Read what the other ladies have written. 6. Create a border for the quilt. Please create a fairly substantial border (5.5 to 6.5 inches) unless directed to do otherwise by the quilt owner. For example, let’s say you think the quilt needs a narrow (1”) green border. Feel free to add that, but also add another border. Just be sure to substantially add to the quilt. 7. Now it’s your turn to write a little something in the notebook. Write about why you added what you did. Feel free to write a note about yourself, or add anything you think the original owner will appreciate. 8. Each month, when you mail the quilt, let us all know what day you mailed it. Post a photo if you can. I encourage everyone to pay the extra for tracking. There is nothing more disappointing then a lost quilt. And any way, I can watch out for any problems and hopefully nip them in the bud! 9. One last thing. Please remember that not all of us have pets or smoke. Please try to keep all pet hair and smoke way from the quilt. Also, please remember to wash all your fabric before adding it to the quilt top. Questions? Ask. (I'm also open to modifying the rules if the group wants to. Just post here with suggestions.)
