Posted - Mar 11 2010 : 05:41:03 AM Two kinds of charm swaps on the Laura Ingalls Wilder Road Trip.
April/ sonshine4u explains it best...
~QUILT BLOCKS~ To swap with other farmgirls on the tour!
Size: 5 1/2" squares (You can make 48 from 1 1/4 yard of 42" material)
Color: Your choice, something that represents you!
Amount: TBD~once the headcount is in!
Embellishment: You don't have to do this, but you can embroider your name on your squares so our farmgirl friends will remember who's square is who's!
Design: You can swap plain squares or if you want to get super fancy, you can do a nine-patch like Laura and Mary did for their quilt or another design of your choice! Totally optional!
Result: A potential blanket of farmgirl friendship that you can wrap yourself in and remember the awesome Laura Ingalls Wilder Prairie Pilgrimage.

Posted - May 16 2010 : 09:06:36 AM Hi Vi! I love your name! My grandmother's name is Viola and she is 94 years old and a true farmgirl! She has had a very full life on the farm!
I am so glad you are meeting up with us in DeSmet! What you need to do is email Wende and ask what she has for a headcount so far for that site. Unless of course you will be doing more sites! The quilt block size is on the first page of this thread! Looking forward to meeting you!!!

Posted - May 15 2010 : 5:51:53 PM OK - I am picking up that the group will make it to DeSmet, SD. I live across the state, so if health is good - I plan to meet up with the group. Charms - how many are we suppose to have, bring, is this - we bring, exchange, with the group? I am confused. Quilt blocks - again do we just make up a bunch of them, or we suppose to have a certain amount, - size of blocks? Info please.

Posted - Apr 03 2010 : 12:30:25 PM I think we will have quite a turn out for the road trip. I hope everyone makes enough charms. There are fabric stores along the way, but they may not have what represents you.
Will start making my bracelet charms soon. I need assistance with this one.
Do not forget to RSVP . This will give me an approx. head count.
Enjoy today. Wende

Okay, so if I made fabric charms and bracelet charms and sent them to you prior, would you swap them for me and in return collect for me? Please let me know.
Have a good day!

Posted - Mar 12 2010 : 2:32:57 PM what is a braclet charm? I'm not real current on trading quilt blocks, but I remember as a child in Kansas, the women of my mother's church having a quilting bee at our house. I think they took turns at each other"s houses. |

Posted - Mar 12 2010 : 07:35:21 AM Good morning all,
Two parts to this one... Yes, need to be present to swap. The quilt will be a farmgirl hug when finished. Although I think after the trip we should consider swapping the charms left. I would love to do that. A postage stamp investment for each swap isn't bad at all.
How about we create a mailing list now and send charms ?? Everyone send me your addresses and I will create a list and take it along on the trip.
Also, which kind of charm you would like or both. Looking forward to this.
As far how many, it is undetermined right now. I hope to meet over 100 farmgirls on the trip. I would rather over-plan than short change myself. Several farmgirls are meeting for one day others are spending one week or longer.
