Posted - Sep 10 2017 : 1:50:36 PM After my dad died in July ( he was living with us) I started cleaning the room he had first. and then I am making my sewing room in there. So, I am finding things everywhere in the house that I had tucked in places cause I did not have the sewing room. Boy every time I come across a sewing item, I purge that particular space. I am having so much fun getting the place back to how I want it. Cleaned out. I agree with all of you , purging is very therapeutic!!

Posted - Sep 04 2017 : 11:02:28 AM Heather... you have inspired me to clean out my closet of clothes. At first it was hard, it seem each piece has a memory of where I bought it or where I wore it or I really use to love this outfit but not any more. Most I have bought a thrift store. Some, I have bought a the mall many, many, many years ago. Middle age has changed my body shape and I will never be that skinny again. I also can to the realization that it's just fabric and thread that I purchased at the thrift store so I have not invested a lot of money in to the garment. I also realize my life style and taste in clothing kept changing so why not. Out this the old and in with the new to me from the thrift store.

Posted - Mar 04 2017 : 10:59:51 AM I didn't make 30 items, I have 70 :0 Wow a person sure can stuff a lot of stuff in a closet! I also ended up with a tub of extras/maybes, and pants one size smaller (hoping I need them) I ended up with 5 bags to either donate or have a tag sale. I realized that by being unorganized I actually bought things I already had. What a waste! This is my new starting point, I hope to still reduce it more. But not today, I'm organized out!! I also cleaned ou the drawers and minimized enough to have a whole empty drawer. Things I realized: We always think we need something A bargain is not a bargain if you don't need it I have a hard time with wanting extras ( hence the tub) but I want to work on this. It is not like they will quit making clothes lol. Top right is the after top left is the messy before. Bottom is in progress

Posted - Mar 04 2017 : 05:51:15 AM I have taken the plunge!I threw my entire closet onto the bed. I swear clothes must be like rabbits and multiply. Where did all this stuff come from. I hope to get down to a 30 items or less closet, I can see that is going to be a challenge. Took a break to make coffee (I'm going to need it) Going back in... say a prayer for me.
I'll be back with picks a little later. If not call 911 cause the heap must have swallowed me up ;)

Posted - Jan 23 2017 : 03:52:46 AM Grace, when you get that figured out let me know! I have the same here. I have been working little by little purging books of my dads. He loves westerns and got so many for Christmas this year. Of course he reads them fast so my daughter keeps him stocked from the thrift and library sales. I have been slowly going through and listing them for him. I the mean time I keep seeing what I can find of my own to get rid of. How do we accumulate so much stuff?

Posted - Jan 20 2017 : 11:15:48 AM I did this last year after my divorce and I filled three dumpsters full of stuff I had been carting around for years that was not even worth donating. I need to go through and do my clothes again. I keep a very small wardrobe as it is, so I wear the same stuff over and over and eventually I need to step back and see that some of my stuff is looking less than great and needs to be tossed. I am hoping to hold out until I am forced into maternity wear and then I can really purge some of my stuff. In the mean time I need to go through under the stairs and get rid of things I don't need and reorganize. Thanks for the inspiration ladies!

Posted - Jan 11 2017 : 11:41:01 AM Wow! Way to go, girls! I certainly know how difficult that job is.
A few months ago, my husband came home to find me in the middle of this.

I had figured I would just pull everything out of the closet, organize it, and put it back. But, then I just kept bring out more stuff, and more stuff, and more stuff! Those closets hold way more than you'd think.

Posted - Jan 09 2017 : 6:05:04 PM Bridgette! LOL!! This is me, too!! But it's compounded by two little ones getting under my feet and pulling things out of piles. I think I'll just have to wait until spring and I can send them all outside for the whole day with dad!

Posted - Jan 06 2017 : 06:24:40 AM Way to go Heather! Scarves can really make a smaller wardrobe feel bigger. Plus they can be wore so many different ways. I still have the closet on the radar for Saturday, right after the Christmas tree downing. |

Posted - Jan 05 2017 : 05:38:16 AM Update- haven't finished the clothes yet but the house is looking better. I have culled through and pulled out odds and ends. We don't have much but removing just a trash bag full of stuff has been very zen for me. I do admit, I bought 2 new scarves, but I donated 6. They were tattered and just didn't look peppy anymore. But I am proud I only bought 2 and I had to really analyze and compare them to purchase. And they were 40% off.

Posted - Jan 04 2017 : 10:49:17 AM It makes life so much easier! I wear mostly black -- one whole side of my closet is black stuff. Then I can always pop a little color with a scarf or something. It felt so good to take all those things to the clothing bank.
Dude went through his suits on NYD as well. He tried on each one and made two piles -- "Keep" and "Toss." Since he is no longer working in the corporate world, there was quite a bit in the "Toss" pile! I was so proud of him.

Posted - Jan 04 2017 : 10:34:48 AM This is on my TODO list for this weekend! I was going to do it last week, but got a horrid cold and didn't get much of anything accomplished. In 2016 I had minimized my wardrobe to just a few colors, black, grey and plum. But since I love a bargain and thrift shopping it has grown again. My closet is a mess! If i remember I will take a before and after. My goal is to get to 21 items not including undies, pj's or coats. I also need to clean out my jewelry since I am not a jewelry wearer. I love a minimalist closet it makes decisions and life just easier! |

Posted - Jan 03 2017 : 5:03:18 PM I've heard of doing that Marilyn but haven't tried it. Maybe I should give it a go. Probably lose another 1/4 to 1/2 my wardrobe.

Posted - Jan 03 2017 : 06:26:25 AM On New Year's Day 2016, I turned all the hangers around on the rods in my closet. As I wore an item during the year, I would replace it the correct way. Then on NYD 2017, I took down all the hangers that were still wrong-way and took those clothes to our local clothing bank, since I knew I hadn't worn them in a year. Felt so good!!!
