I love the knit/jersey maxi skirts that are "in fashion" right now! I found a few patterns I would like to try, picked up some fabric last week and was ready to get to it until I realized that my homemade skirts were going to have the same problem the store bought skirts have. They are incredibly see-through.
The problem is that I have no idea how to line a skirt. I haven't done any cutting of the jersey yet so does anyone have a link to an online tutorial or some advice for me?
I'm totally getting hung up on the lining but it can't be that hard, is it? Thanks in advance :)

So I ended up getting a slip when I saw that the thin jersey lining was $8 a yard and a ready to wear slip was $8 and I had 3 skirts I wanted to line!!! It was a lot easier to buy a slip so now I have 1 slip that I can wear with all my skirts! I could not believe what a difference a slip made underneath some of my skirts that are thick enough I didn't have to wear a slip under. It really does float away the material from your body and smooths lines! Love it!
Yes, the material was white and pink stripes and while I got it for $2.50 a yard it was basically see through even on the pink! But now with my slip it's just fine and you can't even tell! Thanks for all your help, appreciate it!!!

The the price of cotton knit is going up in price, and the thickness is going down.
However, wearing a slip or lining your clothing is not about seeing through it as popularly believed. It's about floating the outer fabric away from your body so you get a nice smooth looking profile, rather then the bumpy busted can of biscuits look that is popular today.

Is it that opaque? Usually, jersey is solid enough that you don't need lining...

I also vote slip!
1. will save you money, you can wear lots of different skirts/dresses with just a few slips. So a few slips and lots of skirts/dresses.
2. People really need to wear slips, it floats the outer clothing away from your body (any flaws or rolls) and gives a smooth silloutte.

I would just wear a long slip. The skirt will drape better than if you try to line it. |

Hi Krystle,
I have good success with You Tube tutorials. Maybe you could find help there. Also, try Sewing with Nancy. She has had a PBS show for years. You can watch her shows on the internet free.
Nancy Zieman is her name and she has a store in Wisconsin. She has a great web site. Hope this helps.
