I've been having trouble finding nice flannel shirts. I have some from Lands End but they didn't have any last year - neither did LL Bean or Eddie Bauer. I bought some from Woolrich - but was disappointed. I'm short so I don't like to wear men's shirts all the time because they're too long in the sleeves... Any ideas?

I didn't have a chance to stop at Farm & Fleet yesterday but I found a great flannel shirt at a thrift shop for $2.50 - at 50% off - its an older one from LL Bean. Woo Hoo!

Thanks Jonni. There is a Farm & Fleet ~ 30 mins from my house. Its on the way to visit my step-father - I'll definitely plan to stop next time I'm near.

Penny - I'll have to check out Sierra Trading Post too. I've never ordered anything from them, but someone I know has. She loves it too. Thanks.

Its funny - I bought the new one at Big R - its very nice and I'd like a couple more - but I'm drawn to the old ones. They're so soft and snuggly especially since our weather is a little chillier these past few days (I'm lovin it). I keep the new one for "good" and thoroughly enjoy wearing the old ones around the house and yard. My DH is the same way - some times we look pretty ratty, but we sure are comfortable.

I was just going to mention Carhartt brand too! I totally forgot about Sierra Trading Post, they have really great prices and I've never noticed anything wrong with their merchandise either!

I'm so excited - I found some flannel shirts at Big R this morning. I only bought one - to see how it fits, etc. after washing - but I liked the feel of the fabric and how it fit in the store. Its a Dickies Work brand. I'm keeping my fingers crossed it washes well. They had some nice colors too.

Thanks for all the suggestions - and I'm still on the lookout for more ideas - but I'm so happy with this find. Its life's little victories that keep you going, isn't it???

Marianne - I never thought of QVC. Is that the home shopping channel? I've never watched it. I'm not sure what they have on it - do they have a schedule? I guess I'm QVC-illiterate...

Amie - I got the same LL Bean cataloge and almost ordered one but was hesitant when I saw "lightweight" - especially after my experience with Woolrich. There is a LL Bean store closer to Chicago - its a distance but I have a friend that lives close to it - so I'll either have her check it out, or plan lunch with her and go myself.

Deborah - I don't know where the closest Tractor Supply store is located. I'll have to look into that. There's a new Rural King store ~ 45 mins west of here. I stopped to check it out last week but didn't have much time to shop. I've never heard of this store before - it was very nice (they had free popcorn - how could you go wrong???) - very similar to Farm & Fleet and Big R.

Heather - yes, I could sew one - but I've not made garments since my daughters were young. I think I'm pretty rusty - but it could be a good winter project. I might have to blow the dust off the old Bernina and see if its like riding a bike...

Thanks again for all your suggestions. Gotta love the farmgirl chatroom...

Lorraine,
If you are looking for some shirts that are for running around town rather than true "workshirts" you might try QVC. They have a large size range that might fit you well and I know they have both lightweight and heavyweight "jacket" type shirts. They have an unconditional guarantee . . .

I just got a catalog in the mail from LL Bean and they have both fleece lined and unlined flannel shirts for women. But the unlined ones are described as "lightweight" flannel, so they may not be what you're looking for.

Thanks for the tip about Cabella's. I forgot about them. I don't think there is one close - but I can look online. There is a Bass Pro ~ 45 mins, so I might look there too. Its frustrating not to be able to find a wardrobe "staple" any more... The flannel shirts I bought from Woolrich were a real disappointment - the fabric was so thin - it didn't even feel like flannel - and they were expensive. I returned them. Krystle - the Bass Pro ones might work for me because my arms are short! Thanks again.

I would have to agree with Annie, Cabela's has a good selection, Bass Pro Shops may and also try Tractor Supply. The one thing I didn't like about the ones from Tractor Supply is that their arms were too short for my taste but they fit like a womans shirt would. I think I just grew up too used to wearing hand me down men shirts that were too long in the sleeve! :) Hope you can find some you like! :)

Try going on-line and check out Cabella's. They have really nice clothes for women. I too have the same problem and have found nice things at Cabell's - of course we have a store an hour away from us which makes it nice.
