Hello!
I found a vintage pattern for making a top that laces up the front like a bodice. It is a 1970's fashion pattern, not for Rennaisance Faires, but I though the style would be nice and lightweight for the German Wurst and Beer type Festivals here in Texas. The pattern calls for grommets or for " lacing hooks". Does anyone have experience applying these? Any suggested brands or tools?

Thank you!
~ Mary LD

If you can get someone to show you how to put them on take the opportunity. They are a challenge to get right. Practice a few first. Please!

Thanks to both of you! Emily, I think I'll try the hook tape. I am going out of town unexpectedly and so I will email you upon my return.
Sarah Pauline, I will most gladly try your method on an outdoorsy project ! I have saddle bag and hay bag projects that need grommets, and I'll admit, I am very intimidated by the idea of putting them into fine fabrics!!!!!
My gratitude,

I havent had a problem with grommets, and they are typically really strong. You just make the smallest hole you can get away with, stick the longer part through, set the top piece over and use the tool and wack it hard with a hammer...not on your hardwood floor...*I did this once.

grommets can be purchased in joanns and wallyworld, for a first timer they are sometimes not so nice. if you want to do lacing hooks you can also use eye tape this is it here http://www.qualitydress.com/d-p113584885697387225-hook_and_eye_tapes/ you can email me if you want and I can sell you a bit of mine (black) for 10 cents an inch.
