I personally hate bangs. Especially here in the South, they get all covered in sweat and make my forehead break out. HOWEVER, bangs look great on some girls! If you have an especially high forehead, bangs look really good as opposed to no bangs. And, I agree with Jana, if you do go for bangs, get them cut fringe like so they do not look like a bad first grade picture! Lol. I trim my daughter's bangs straight across, but then I do this thing where I make the ends fringed, so they don't look so heavy. :0)

You know, Susie, I am in the same situation. I'm 52 and my last hair cut was a total disaster. I'm a large woman and I don't like the "pinhead" look I get when its super short. On the other hand, I'm not really after looking like I'm 17 again, either. I've decided to go long.

I'm at the point where I need to decide what to do with the idea of bangs. You know, you don't have to cut them thick or super short. Sometimes a fringe of longish bangs can get you through those times when the growing out is so bad you have no choice but to wrap your hair into a long scarf or wear a beret pulled way down. They frame the face, and if not too heavy, will not widen the face (this is an issue I have).

The best investment I've made is a thinning shears I actually got at a pet supply store. Its one of those scissors with all the teeth in it for cutting a straight edge with a slightly fringed look. It helps eliminate the severe look of trimming. I highly recommend for do-it-yourself trims while growing out.

Would have to see a picture. What age are you? I am 55 and I know that if I try bangs again my girls would think I have gone crazy.
