What about adopting the old cowgirl way of wearing a bandana around your neck for work and play. In the hot weather you can dip it in cold water, wring it out and Wow, instant cool! Bonnie

I still wear a bandana most weekends like I remember my mother doing. She would fold it into a triangle and tie it under her hair. Sort of hippy, but it suits me and my husband says it's "sexy"...:)

I have an array of bandanas. Some are more thin than others from the constant use.
Fav color is lavender of course. I keep trying to find one in screaming bright yellow.
I also carry one or wear one pretty much either to wipe hands or keep cool all year.
Have noticed a difference in fabric quality too, as the ones made in the USA are softer |

I wear a bandana around my forehead when I mow the yard. Keeps the sweat from going in my eyes. I usually have one in my back pocket, too.

Dryer sheets are supposed to be good at keeping mosquitoes at bay, too - think I'd look too silly with a dryer sheet pinned to my bandit-style bandana while gardening? LOL

I wouldn't make it through summer without my bandanas. I always have one around my neck or in my back pocket when we're baling hay or brushhogging. Pour a little ice water on it from the cooler and ...aaahhh, refreshed.

Hey gals: I was just talking about the simplicity of wearing a bandana and when it is hot you can soak it in water. I never figured you'd come up with some many other things. Shows you farmgirls are always thinking. Bonnie

I I think it may be similar to whats in diapers. I think the stuff in the diapers is a more fine consistency. The stuff I use is more like rock salt. |

This use of a bandana is alot like what MaryJane has in her book called a shilly-shally. I made one for my sister for her birthday. I think it turned out really pretty. They are a bit bigger than a bandana but work much the same. The larger size makes it possible to use them for other things. I am going to make myself one as soon as I finish my dish towels.

I use a bandana when I'm doing a lot of housework. I use it to cover my face to protect me from things that stir up my allergies. I look like a bandit.

I get mine at the local seed shop. Here is a website ofr it. Its great in pants and gardens. You only need like a teaspoon in a neckcooler.

Bandana ARE great for that!!
I knit bandanas for staying warm in the cooler months. I use Elizabeth Lavold Silky Wool, a silk/ wool blend that I get for about $7, and there is almost half leftover for starting another one. I use a size 5 needle.
You cast on 3 stitches, and then you knit across, knitting in front tand back of last stitch. After that, slip all first stitches knitwise, knit across to the last stitch, knit in front and back of that stitch. Keep going until you have 110 stitches, and bind off.
It's great for keeping wind off your neck when it's windy or cool, without having a scarf going everywhere! I use mine for chores, hiking, and trail riding. I keep a regualar bandana and a hankie in my saddle bag at all times for just in case. It's actually a pommel bag and sits right in front of me on the saddle.

I have filled them with aquasource and sewn them to hold it too. You soak them in water and they keep you cool! |
