Ok, gals, I need a little help here - did any of you have a blow up slip back in the 50's or early 60's?? It was a regular slip worn under a dress but it had a tube near the bottom that you could blow up, like an inner tube. For little girls, of course. And, if your mom would let you blow it up till it was filled, your dress would REALLY stand out! Will soon be visiting my mom & gal cousins - told my mom I was always jealous of them because their mom let them blow their slips up more than I was allowed - she claims to have no idea of any blow up slip! Well, I was only 6 or so and I know I had one - maybe a special treat from g'ma - I don't remember where it came from!! Can any of you back me up on this - would love to be able to tell Mom of others with the oh-so-cool blow up slip.........please!! thanks, sandi in texas |

I graduated in 1962 and I also wore the can can's we use to starch them till they were really stiff. I love all those old songs from that generation. |

I graduated in 1959. We wore those crinoline slips, maybe 2 at a time. sissy saddles and socks you rolled down 3 times and your hair up in a pony tail with a scarf tied in or worn around your neck. Oh yeah! We were the Elvis generation all right! |

I had one of these! Loved the way your skirts would stand out. But I do remember sitting down was alittle difficult!

Wow......talk about taking someone back in time!! I had forgotten all about this slip!! I had one and can remember blowing it up and being thankful that I had to wear only "1" slip instead of several to get my dress to stand out just right!! Crinoline slips were quite itchy. My Mama and Grandmother loved me in frilly dresses. Now you know how old I am!!! LOL Thanks for pulling out a special memory for me! |

My sister and I had"can-cans" to wear on special occasions and we really thought we were something in them. Loved the way our dresses stood out with them on.All little girls loved to feel feminine and girly back then. (late 50's-early 60's) ;-)

Oh, I've enjoyed reading this thread. I never heard of them, but remembered having a crinoline slip when I was little. It was so feminine.

Finally came up with the right words to find this slip - googled "inflatable petticoat" and found a wonderful article with pictures from 1961. Promptly sent it all to my mom .... smile! I really felt like a princess with this magical slip but mom allowed just one puff - you don't get much loft with one puff! Of course I always tried to sneak more - and got caught every single time! So glad for proof that they did exist!! |

I remember them and wanted one so badly but we were so poor that mom couldn't afford one. But I did get a crinoline petticoat one time! That was almost as good.

Sandi I remember them, didn't have one but had a friend that did. It was about 1963 I think. Would be really cool to find one somewhere.
