My daughter has a couple of windows she needs curtain rods for. She wants more ornate finials on these rods, but doesn't want to spend much money. We have been racking our brain, what we could use. Hubby and I walked out to a shed we have stuff/junk in and he picked up some lathe turned chair legs and asked if we would cut them down would the portions of the ornate part be the finial. I think he is genius. We can make a dowel extension to connect the rod and finial or maybe just glue it on. Either way it is going to look cool. This said, anyone else have ideas what to use as finials? I am fascinated by the idea and think it could be really fun to do some in my own house. And..... my son's family is moving into a new house and will need rods also.

I love the iron gate idea. Will have to look around and see what I can find.

Do you have any wrought iron fence of gate pieces? they often have an ornate top to them, If someone can weld the spot would be hidden by the curtain. Also depending on the area she is using them, a simple piece of wood that you would put a point on ( or the ends he took off the chairs) then cover with glass gems glued on them would work, the kind you get that are round shiny or mirrored or broken china with the white grout over it. just thinking....

sounds like a project

good luck
