How To Save Money Watching- Excellent blog post here, getting ready to get rid of our satellite service soon. Savings- $800.00 a year.
http://adventuresinthegoodland.blogspot.com/2014/01/how-to-watch-tv-without-cable.html

Cell Phones- I also decided that since I'm paying $30.00 a month to use a smartphone, for the data pack, that I'm going back to a texting, non-smart phone. I'm due for a free upgrade next month. I get a good discount thru my employer, but I have 2 computers at work, and 2 at home. I always have 0 useage, so what am I really paying for? Back to the basics for me. I just saved $360.00 a year, no loss of convenience for me.

Total savings- over $1,000. I'd rather take a vacation, or, ah yes- all those home repairs :)

We stream Amazon Prime and Hulu. Cost is about 20.00 a month. We have one cell phone and it is a straight talk from Walmart. It cost us about 20.00 a month.
After years as a upper management person, in corporate America, I really cant stand cell phones. I refuse to use them unless it is an emergency or something super important. If you think about most of the time spent on cell phones is not really needed. When you are on the phone talking or texting you are not paying attention to the here and now. I want to grocery shop without needing to chat, I want to drive and enjoy the sights without needing to text. So the 20.00 a month does just fine and it saves my sanity lol

We have not had cable or satellite for 2 years. I didn't think hubby would go for it, but he likes it. We stream football games and favorite shows. Or we watch movies from the library. We do pay for internet and a landline (for emergency). But those expenses are re-negotiated every year to keep the cost down.

Also, we have smartphones from AT&T, but have the talk and text Gophones. They connect to wifi, which is available EVERYWHERE. So we don't pay for data. Our total monthly phone bill for 2 smartphones is $50. The kids pay for their own phones, but also have gophones.

I have decided not to have any contracts with any company. Cell phones and cable are luxuries, not necessities. And we treat them as such.

Good Luck
Arttie
