Posted - Feb 01 2014 : 11:42:19 AM I am so excited. I had posted I wanted something to keep my colored pencils in. I had a inspiration. I went to my friend's antique store and asked how much a silverware chest would cost me. He sold it to me for just over $20. I took it home, ripped the old velvet out, went to the thrift store and bought a crushed velvet dress for a quarter, went home and went to work. Here is a picture of my end results. I could not be happier. I am thinking of all sorts of possibilities for these. It would make a wonderful jewelry chest, a place for mementos like sports medals etc, and who knows what else. I love doing this project. I forgot to mention the card board that is behind the fabric cost me 20 cents. They had Christmas gift boxes on sale and I bought two pkgs for 10 cent a piece. |

Posted - Feb 08 2014 : 02:51:19 AM Judith,I think you will really enjoy the process of repurposing it. I love projects like this. I love the hunt for items that will work on my projects. My mantra is "things are not as they seem" meaning anything can be turned into something else. Looking for the next new project. Pinterest is my inspiration for new projects, gotta love that site. |

Posted - Feb 05 2014 : 1:08:38 PM Kem, that is awesome! And how great that you used an old thrift store dress for the fabric! After reading that, I'm inspired to go to the thrift store to look for fabrics first! Great job!

Posted - Feb 04 2014 : 5:18:49 PM Thanks for your kind support. I am going to take this into the guy I bought it from. He has approx. 6-8 chests in there. Maybe I can talk him into letting me redo a couple for him. I think it would make them sell better. I have done glass etching for him before. I did a really cool glass umbrella case with etched wording Love doing that kind of thing. |

Posted - Feb 01 2014 : 2:31:02 PM Very nice Kem. I had a one of those chests at one time. I guess I should have kept it. Yes lots of ideas are popping in my head now that I don't have it anymore. You were clever to think of a good use for it. Nancy Jo
