Posted - Nov 17 2012 : 5:13:25 PM I work at Dunkin Donuts. Yesterday, a woman came in with a quart mason canning jar and she had turned it into a travel mug. She drilled a hole in the center of the 2 piece cap and put a rubber grommet in it that was big enough for a straw to fit down in. Neat idea. I want to make some for gifts. Any thought on what to use for yarn to crochet a coozie with to fit over the jar? It could also be used for hot drinks (she bought an iced coffee) if a coozie could be made for it.

Posted - Jan 24 2013 : 6:15:30 PM I saw in the new MJF magazine they have an actual lid you can use to make a travel mug from a mason jar, it looked like they have a website too.

When you drilled the hole into the plastic lid, did it crack? I did this with recycled peanut butter jars, and it's a bit challenging to drill the plastic lid.
Just wondering.

Posted - Dec 23 2012 : 6:15:53 PM Ok...made 5 of them My siblings loved them made cammo coozies to go over them. Used polyfill batting and muslin for inner liner. I measured 15 in. Around for the quart jar and 6 in for the length. The bottom should be 4 in. In diameter finished.

Posted - Nov 18 2012 : 05:52:50 AM I got thinking about it...I think instead of crocheting the coozie make it out of cloth and fiber fill. It would be machine washable then, not melt like yarn fibers and I could put an elastic in the top to help hold it on the jar.
