If you see any wonderfully low prices for school supplies, could you please post where, when and what?
Last year I was able to buy spiral notebooks for $.20/each. The year prior to that they sold for $.10/each. Any deals on paper supplies, glue, glue sticks etc. would be helpful.
I know we don't all have the same stores, but thought a thread would be helpful for pinching pennies. Last year, school fees alone for my kids, were around $300.00 (not including supplies).

If you have a Staples, check out their ad. I got 5 reams of loose leaf paper fro $.05 total with another $5.00 purchase (got other sale supplies that were not considered "extreme" deals).

Wal mart seems to have the best deals so far. I picked up a few more things yesterday. The best time to buy though is after school starts and wait a few weeks, then Halloween and Christmas stuff comes in and they want to get rid of the school stuff.
I don't shop Target, so I don't know what is going on there.

Menards has a back to school sale: notebooks, twin pocket folders, 3x5 index cards, generic crayons, 4 oz glue, rulers - .19 cents each.

My daughter is taking two classes in college this semester. The books for the two classes are $365. Plus they are written specifically for these classes andare only available by the school so they cannot be bought cheaper on line. These classes are remedial math and freshman english, not astrophysics and enginering. What a rip! |

Lea, if you're looking for a lower price, you might try Amazon or ebay. I saw that on Amazon you can get a refurbished calculator for quite a bit less. Good luck. I remember feeling like crying when my daughter needed one 10 years ago and I saw the cost! |

We too, had to buy that type of calculator. Today's schools are nothing like when I was a kid.
Yesterday, on a long hot shopping day, I found these deals:
Staples: buy $5 worth of products and you can buy 2 sets of tab dividers for $.01 each, and 2 - 1 inch binders for $1.00. They also had loose leaf paper at $.75 and composition notebooks for $.50
Wal-mart: 24 box of crayons for $.25, large markers $.50, Composition notebooks for $.50/each. I can't remember the price, but they also had index cards for under $.50. They had 1-inch binders (black or blue) for $1.00 each also.

She is in 11th grade. I guess they can use this same one in college so it can be an investment now and be used later also which helps. |

I think for the younger kids they shouldn't have a calculator but maybe the graphing makes it easier for them. Is she in junior high? I know I had a hard time with graphs when I was in school but for me math was not my best subject. Maybe if I had one when I had those kind of classes I might of done better with math.

I have to find my daughter a ti84 graphing calculator. I am looking and walmart is cheapest so far.$100 for a calculator! In my day calculators were considered cheating! |

If you have a flyer for another store with you- Walmart will ad match. That way you can save yourself an extra trip

If you have a Big Lots around, they are sometimes a few cents cheaper. I think the comp books were a dollar each. I got loose leaf paper for 74 cents a pack for 150 sheets. But they are strange because they don't have the three holes in them???? What's up with that?
Got plastic rulers for 49 cents each at Big Lots.

I am needing good prices on lined loose leaf paper, index cards and composition notebooks.
The lowest I have found lined paper is $.75 at our K-mart. I have seen index cards at $.65/each at Family Dollar. I found 1 inch binders at K-mart for $1.25 each also. I think Staples put these lower last year too.
Wal-mart has their composition notebooks for $.94, so I am looking for lower prices on that too. I'll keep an eye on the flyers and keep checking on-line too.

That is really great. I used to go to Staples when I worked the Charter School, they have such good deals even if you just use it for your self.

Got great deals at Staples today. Roseart crayons for a penny per box for the first two boxes. Markers for 2.00. Glue sticks 4 pack I think they were 1.00. They had tons of stuff.
Got the huge box of Crayola for 3.00. I give the Roseart crayons for coloring everyday stuff and I save the Crayola for projects and stuff.
I spent a whopping 20.00. Got regular glue also.
I do homeschool, so I didn't have a big list of stuff to buy. But I stock up when the deals start.

We were at Staples today and got black Sharpies -- a pack of 5 for $1.00 (and you could get up to 4 packs!!) Who doesn't need black sharpies?! :) Great for writing on canning lids!! :)
They also had dry-erase markers I think 4 for $1.00 and then glue bottle for 1 cent and some others like that.

Kristina, my daughter used to get great deals on her textbooks at a website named something like "half.com" You can also sell any textbooks you were unable to sell back to your bookstore. Good luck, it is quite an expense when you add it all up.
