I have several of these. Mine came out of some junk my b-i-l brought in and they hold a little over an ounce. I make soy wax candles and I use these to make fragrance tarts, from my leftover wax. With the wax, once it sets up, I put them in the freezer for a few minutes, then the tart easily pops out.

I'm not sure what I will do with all of them yet. However, my 17 yo daughter has seen them and wants to use one for her earrings etc. I think the larger one would make a great pin cushion too. I love to read all of your ideas also.

Makes sense Inge. I used to see a lot of those in antique stores in northern Il when I lived there for a while. Lot's of Nordic influence there. Those cookies sound wonderful. I love those shapes.

The more oval shaped ones seem to be for a Nordic cookie called a sandbakken. Somewhat like a pecan sandie but much better. You take the ball of dough and press it into the tin, when they are done being baked the tin gets slightly twisted to release the cookie. I have also used them to make both pecan and lemon tart shell. Oh, boy this is making my mouth water. These are things that we in the north land of Nordic descent make for the Christmas holidays. |

Oh yeah, lye. :) That would be a problem! Well, I did say I was no expert. What I didn't say was that I sometimes miss the obvious! LOL
I do love those old molds and have a few myself. I've been waiting for the perfect use.
I can tell some of them were for gelatin,sweet or savory. What all were they used for? Some appear to be for pastry?

I tried doing soap in those when I had some & the lye ate into the metal & pretty much destroyed them plus the soap didnt' want to come out so I would say use them for something other than soap unless you are doing a already made soap that is just remelted but they still might be a problem getting out unless you freeze them for a bit....to save the ones I destroyed with the lie I went to the art store & got the enamel paint you can bake onto metal in your oven & coated the insides with it, baked it & now I can use them for other things...I have a few in my sewing room for small items & even in my artshop with tiny beads in them...so thank goodness I could re-use them. I would call it a great deal! I see holders for hair clips in the bathroom, corn cob pins in the kitchen, crayons in the living room, and pocket stuff in the bed rooms!
