I wasn't sure where to post this, I hope this is the right area.

Universal entertainment group has a site up called The Art of Reuse in cooperation with Etsy. The basis of it is that there is a contest for the crafters who posted projects upcycling items that are normally discarded. There are a few categories with a bunch of great projects and ideas! In addition to the great projects, if you register for the site and vote they enter you to win $500 to use on Etsy. There are some really cute ideas in the jewelry section especially. Mine is in the pet section (20 min dog sweater) heheh. Voting aside, you can browse the site without registering OR voting and I feel like the projects are worth a look either way! Each category has "ReUser Guide Projects" that aren't even part of the contest but are really neat and inspiring. Anyway, Just thought I'd let every one know.

Even though they excluded me from all of the publicity perks of the finalists by saying that my project didn't "best represent" what the contest was about, apparently the judges thought differently because I won 3rd place!!!! I figure that is pretty good for the first craft contest I've ever entered! Even if the today show did shaft me completly, lol I'm still very happy!

Thanks so much for checking it out!

My poor little pound puppy has very little hair, it's coarse and thinnly placed. lol There is only a short couple of months during summer that she isn't shaking or seeking something to curl up under. I can't knit or crochet and buying them at $15 (and up) each just isn't really much of an option for me, I'm too cheap. This has lead to several different attempts at making her sweaters out of MY old sweaters. I've made several differnt versions, some with normal collars, some with this turtleneck style, some with legs too. lol She loves them and they keep her warm for the other 9 months of the year.

I bought a bunch of sweaters a while ago at the Goodwill Outlet in Indy for approx 67 cents a pound. She is small so I can get two sweaters and some scrap out of a pull over and one with a lot of scrap from a cardi. I even use the scrap up! If it is cuffs or other trim I save it for other projects. i've used old sweaters to line purses, it can be used to make the exteriors of purses, I've made gloves (fingerless), scarves, hats, pin cushions, flowers. lol The scrap is also good for unraveling (sometimes you have to tie lengths together) and using to knit/crochet something else or really for anything you'd use yarn for. I mean, you can't really get a sweaters worth of cashmere yarn for the $3 you could buy a sweater for at the Salvo's you know! I even use the small scraps from the sweaters for stuffing in pincushions and small things like that.

The possibilities for how you embellish the dog sweater or use the leftovers are endless! LOL

Sorry to ramble; I get really excited about repurposing!
