OK, speaking of Nifty Thrifty....
Don't over look Pillow Cases as a great source of fabric....oh the things we can make from them...
Aprons...if the edge/hem is fancy or has stitchery..you will already be ahead of the game...1 standard pillowcase can make a 1/2 apron, so all you will need is a contrasting or complimentary fabric for the ties & pocket...& if you have 2 matching pillowcases then you can make a full apron....easy peasy....
YoYo's you can make a gazillion of them!
A child's sundress....or play clothes or dolly clothes...
not to mention, Market Totes, mini pillows and well,,,you get the idea....
Think of PillowCases as yesteryears Flour Sacks...
Hmmm, I think I need a Thrift Fix so I can buy some pillowcase....

I like using embroidered pillow cases to make stuff, gives you really pretty trimwork without all the effort. if I want vintage fabric though I usually look for old flat sheets or curtains when I'm out thrifting.

Cases with embroidery or crochet edges (or both!) are pretty draped over a curtain rod as a valance. It here is a curtain you don't even have to cut them.

So many uses I never thought of! I collect vintage pillowcases and I have them hung on my laundry room wall on a faux clothes line for decor!

I've used pillowcases to slipcover those square footstools (you know, that come in a dark pleather finish, and the top comes off for storage). By cutting the sides of the case, figuring out how I want it wrapped, and then a quick seam together, it makes a much more grandma's-attic-exploded-in-my-whole-house look that goes with my decor. Faux leather is so not my thing, but a nifty old pillowcase (sometimes doctored up by old bits of trim, ribbon, or contrasting fabric) truly is.

And one of the things I luv about pillowcases (& sheets) is that the fabric is durable,,,,not flimsy thin!
There is a book called "The Pillowcase Book" that has about 2dozen fun crafty ideas for projects made from pillowcases including small doggie bed-cushions....
Gotta luv those old pillowcases!

Love the ideas for pillow case uses. I too have so many unused ones in my linen closet that I rarely use. I may try the tote bag idea since I am wanting to purchase totes for grocery shopping. They are quite expensive to purchase, but if I make my own they are even better. Thanks for the idea:) Erica

So true! and pillowcase sundresses are so easy to make.
I also like to find pretty pillowcases to use as sweater bags, I fold my laundered swaeters & tuck into the pillowcas and add a sachet of lavender.
One could use 2 pillow cases, one turned inside out & inserted into the rightside out pillowcase....cut off excess top of the pillowcase, attach to use as handles, top stitch the attached pillowcase & instant tote bag.

I like to use pillow cases for fabric, too. I make dolls so I am always looking for pretty fabrics for doll clothes. The white pillow cases make nice pantaloons and slips. There does always seem to be a large amount of pillowcases compared to the sheets.

I even use pretty pillow cases for storing my fine sweaters, to keep the sweaters from getting snags.

Ok, today I hit the Thrift, & found 2 really cute pillowcases to re-purpose into aprons, one even has a ruffled hem! & I only paid 99cents each!
I can hardly wait to get stitchen'

I keep my beloved quilts in pillow cases before I put them in the cedar chest or closet...keeps the wood away from the fabric and thereby reduces the chance of staining the quilt fabric!

Great ideas. I've never figured out why a linen closet always has three times the amount of pillowcases than sheets. Do pillowcases multiply on their own? lol. My linen closet has three shelves for my sheets and pillowcases and one entire shelf is only pillowcases and only about a third matches the sheets I have. I think I need to use your ides and make some new things.

Give thanks to yourself everyday for all the wonderful things you do!
