We buy ice cream by the gallon which usually comes in a plastic container with a handle. I have found the empty containers are perfect to carry your harvest in from garden to table.
I was recently given an opportunity to pick smallish plums from a friend's tree. These also worked well for doing that.
I'm sure there are many other purposes for them
recycled. Such as to store thread, craft supplies (rubber stamps?) seed packets, small baby toys, buttons, etc.
Don't throw them away.

I use some of them in the garden. I cut the bottoms off and for plants like tomatoes or anything that cut worms like, I put them around the base dug down about an inch or two and the cut worms can't get through. Works really well.

I use some oyster buckets for compost buckets in my kitchen. I love them! I have used butter tubs, sour cream tubs, etc. for measuring feed to our sheep, chickens and dogs. I have used them as planters, storage tubs, etc. I even used a butter tub as the base for my wedding cake topper, turned it upside down and used it as the platform for the bride and groom characters. I decorated it with yellow ribbon to cover it. It was beautiful.

I use them to hold:
1. Crayons
2. Playdough
3. Beads/laces
4. Kid's cars
5. puzzle pieces
6. cookie cutters
7. frozen berries
8. Christmas Ornaments
9. kid's snack buckets- put granola bars, fruit snacks, etc...
10. use as compost bucket
11. store yarn balls
12. sewing kits for kids
13. travel bucket- fill w/ small games, toys, snacks, wipes....take along on car rides.

We buy Talenti Gelato and it comes in pint sized hard plastic jars with resealable twist lids. We love these and reuse them in all sorts of ways. I use them to keep my individual homemade huices fresh until I'm ready to mix them, they can be used for really anything you make and need to store in the fridge or freezer. Hubby puts his own homemade ice creams in them. They really have a million uses!
It's really so great to find a forum where people aren't turing their noses up about reusing things instead of buying it all brand new! :)

I'm not sure how large an ice cream container you're talking about, but I've been using a small sherbet container (maybe 1/2 gallon size?) as a cheese press. I don't make cheese often enough to feel like investing in a real one. I just punched holes in the bottom with a nail (from the inside out, so as not to leave an impression from the edges in the cheese). The lid, with the edge cut off, becomes the follower and I weight it with bricks. |

I have a few I like to use for chicken feed and to fill the bird feeders. They are flexable enough to make pouring with them easy.
Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit.
Wisdom is not putting them in a fruit salad!

I use these too! One is a "portable" cookie jar, one holds popcorn, one is for rolls or biscuits and the others are for harvesting blueberries, raspberries and black berries. Kids love them as pails at the beach too!

My mom and dad loved ice cream and would save the containers for me to make Easter baskets for my 5 kids. I also taught school and loved having these for the childrens' Easter Baskets. We would glue felt ears, and eyes and put a pink pompom and whiskers on with hot glue. Just one idea...Smiles, BEth

I use one to hold all of my measuring cups - that way I always know where they are and they aren't taking up a drawer. It has eliminated lots of frustration.
I use another one to keep all my little bags of dried fruit and nuts in, for the same reason. Plus the mice can't get in.

I remember my mom used to use them for the deep freeze, with food.

Yes I have 2 that I use in my seed/garden tub. They work great to keep them dry. I also have one with my elastic stored in it in my sewing room.
