What a productive night last night! I made 5 summer nighties for each of my (2) daughters--just have to be hemmed still.

I bought 2 packs of boys undershirts and used 2 sheets that I had bought at a thrift store, so that ended up at $16 for ten nighties! And bonus--they love them :)

Sheila...those look more like Sun-Dresses than Night Gowns! So adorable, thanks for sharing your
creative juices and boy, were they cost affective. Way to go!

Made the "summer nightie" for my daughter today! It came out perfect, and it was so easy to do! I wonder if my Katie will mind if her and her Mama have matching nighties... maybe!

This is going in my gifts to make notebook for sure! I have a set of twin nieces and a friend with two daughters who may as well be nieces. I can't wait to give it a try.

Oh my gosh! They're adorable! And they look really comfortable too! I only have little boys (who seem to prefer to sleep in their underwear if they sleep in anything at all), but I might try to make one for myself. I usually sleep in tank tops (or nothing ;-) ), but this is basically a tank top with a skirt, so it could work. :-)

I forwarded a link to this thread to a friend of mine who has a daughter the same age as my eldest son. She's not officially a Farmgirl yet, but unofficially she's definitely got that farmgirl spirit! <waves at Sarah when she comes to check out the link>

You could use a rectangle, but it won't be quite so twirly. I just took boy's tank top tshirts and cut a few inches off the bottom (they're really long) and made a skirt like this shape

SO the measurement at the top is about 1/4 of your waist measurement, plus a little bit for comfort. The A measurement equals the B measurement to keep the length uniform. Cut it out on the fold, and make two per nightie. Stitch the skirt together, then just sew it to the undershirt--stretching the undershirt to fit the skirt as you go, and it'll gather itself that way.

If that isn't as clear as it is in my mind :) ask me more and I'll try to describe it more :) I did also cut out a bit from the sheet and stitch (applique) it onto the front of the tops to make them a little more cutesy :)

Oh, wow, that's fantastic! I'm going to copy that for my daughter & maybe even myself!

Ladies, it looks like you can just use a rectangle of material for the skirt. Sew the side seam up, gather the waist & attach it to the bottom of the shirt. Then hem it. If I'm not mistaken, she also cut out a motif from each sheet & made an applique or iron-on patch for the top. Too cute!
