I have numerous pairs of wool socks that I have literally walked the bottoms off of.
But the rest of the sock is still perfectly usable...soooo, I was thinking of buying some heavy microfleece and re-soling my socks. My other idea is to felt some thrift store sweaters and make new soles for my poor worn out sockies out of the felted wool Has anyone else here tried doing this? Anyway, this is my cheap-skate idea of the year

Another thought would be to make cup cozies for your travel mugs:) I love the hand warmer idea.

I made wool felted bottoms for my rubber boots...they feel great and cushy. I am sure you can do the same for you sock tops..

In our knitting guild there is a lady who always cuts the bottoms off and re- knits a new bottom..

I am with the wrist warmers idea. I love to wear them on cold days when my hands just need some extra warmth to work right.

Have made wrist warmers from those warm cuffs, or picked up stitches and knitted new bottoms onto them.

if there are just holes in certain places, you can use some roving and needlefelt those holey places.
you would turn the sock inside out, and put a piece of foam inside, use 3 layers of roving laid in
opposite directions and then needlefelt them to the sock covering the hole(s).

how about hemming the unworn part, filling with rice and stitching the other end and making hand warmers?
