When making furniture slipcovers, downloaded patterns that need enlargement, or the like, instructions often call to use newspaper to make the pattern piece which can mar the fabric with ink, or butcher roll paper which is expensive. So, the last time JoAnn had a 0.99 pattern sale I bought a few plus-size women's patterns and just used the tissue to make my pattern. I marked out my pieces with a red felt tip pen so as to not be confused by the black-printed pattern. Worked like a charm. If you try it just be sure to draw on an old/icky tabletop as the marker will bleed through, or use a pen.

I use painter's plastic and a sharpie; cheap, reusable and takes up very little space too.

I buy extra Christmas wrapping paper at the dollar store and use it for patterns to copy on, its a little heavier than tissue and not so heavy that its hard to pin on fabric.
