Posted - Oct 20 2009 : 9:20:50 PM I always have fabric scraps, so I found a site on the Internet. People who want scraps post it, or people who have scraps post it there as well. My fabric scraps have found new homes. I usually send the scraps to people who make things for charity.

Posted - Oct 21 2009 : 09:55:56 AM Molly, that is what I didn't want to happen. I have a lot of scraps. Some of the scraps would work in a 4 x 4 inch square, and some are odd sizes. I used to take the larger pieces to the American Red Cross. There was a group of women who sewed for the American Vets. Now, I take the larger scraps to a Lutheran Church, that makes quilts for women in Africa. They don't want the smaller pieces, and I didn't know what else to do with them. The scraps were piling up and my dh of course wanted them gone. This is when I did the search on the Internet. Once you post about having scraps, you will get a lot of messages from women who want the scraps. Right now, I have a large box of scraps.

Posted - Oct 21 2009 : 09:50:18 AM What a great link, thank you! When people find out you sew/quilt/craft (at least, this has been my experience) they ask if they can give you their mom/aunt/grandma's,etc. leftover scraps and who can turn that down? At least I know that it isn't going into the waste stream and I can find a good home for the fabric scraps if I don't use them. And I have more than enough of my own! <G> Our local Goodwill doesn't accept sewing items or fabric scraps, they go right into the landfill. How awful!
