Posted - Sep 01 2009 : 09:25:35 AM I gathered up some of the barters and swaps, then to find packaging material. I found a manilla bubble mailer I just got in the mail the other day carrying insul-bright for the potholder swap. I thought, "Hmm it's not ripped up. I think I can reuse this. Just make a new mailing label to cover the old one. Packed her up, taped her closed and ready to go.
Just wondering if any of gals do this too?

Posted - Sep 23 2009 : 07:47:29 AM I have decided to make a little "shipping department" near my front door. I already have a small bookcase there so we are replacing the books with shipping "stuff". I flattened out all the boxes stashed them behind the bookcase, all the used and new mailers are by size, tape-labels-sharpies will be in an old tupperware container, as will the bubble wrap, peanuts and any paper that can be used in shipping. My daughter laughed at me when I told her we were going to do this. But hey it beats stuffing it everywhere else. At least I know where everything is and I don't have to go searching for stuff.

Posted - Sep 19 2009 : 12:15:42 PM We try to reuse everything! Those boxes are expensive if you buy them new! We also made wrapping sheets for birthdays and christmas! Just big pieces of cloth, sewn over to make them double sided. I have them in all different sizes, so I can find the closest size and "wrap" up the gift. Tie it up with ribbon and there you go! Of course this only works for family gifts! But I keep all gift bags we get and use those for presents to others. We also make our own cards. I think it's silly that you buy/make a $15.00 gift, then spend $3.99 on wrapping paper, $1.99 on a bow and $3.75 for a card! That's crazy! So we try to spend $0 on the wrapping so the gift can be that much better! ;-)

Posted - Sep 02 2009 : 2:38:59 PM You know I remember at Christmas my Mammaw would always tell us not to rip open the paper to unwrap it carefully so we could reuse it. I always used to think she was nuts. Of course I was much younger then. I realize now why she did the things she did. She grew up with 4 sisters on a farm. Money was tight and they made the most of everything. I don't know if she knew but she was the one who probably taught me the most about being thrifty.

Posted - Sep 02 2009 : 09:25:48 AM We have a 10' long bow window in the living room and the animals were getting up and laying on the window ledge, scratching the wood. One day my friend was there and I remarked on it. There was bubble wrap in a pile on the floor from a pkg that had just arrived. She suggested I cover the wood work with it and maybe the popping would scare the animals and keep them from laying on it. That was 3 or 4 yrs ago and it is still there...popping didn't scare them but it keeps their claws from scratching the wood! |

Posted - Sep 01 2009 : 11:08:08 AM I always reuse them!! Indeed a new address sticker and they are ready to go around the world again :) I try to open them very carefully, but if that doesn't work I just use clear tape to close them up again. WHY throw them out when you can re use them.
Janice my mom LOVED to burst those bubbles too, me as well lol. Still like to do that sometimes when the envelope is really ready to be tossed ;)

Posted - Sep 01 2009 : 10:55:48 AM I always try to reuse packages/packaging of any type. I remember a few years ago, ebayers were having a fit that some people were reusing packages, etc. to send them their things. I had to laugh. Guess they had nothing else to worry about. LOL
Good to hear others reuse their bubble mailers/packages too.
