I bought an old Singer sewing machine base the other day. It is just the castiron part. It is very rusty and needs to be sandblaster then I can get it painted.
I would like to make a table out of it, and was wondering if any of you gals have any ideas as to what I could use for the top?
I want to uswe it in my living room by the front door.

You could use an old door, school desk top, or find another sewing machine cabinet that is in good shape and use that. Good luck.

Today I went to Grand Junction and got the sewing machine frame sandblasted and the guy really did a good job. I think I will take it to the body shop to have it painted. I think they will do a better job than I can. I know it will be a little pricey but I want it to look good to be in my living room. I'm still trying to figure out what to do for the top.

I ended up with the same thing after our house fire that burned the wood cabinet off of it. I used flat black Rust-o-leum paint on it. My husband made a top out of expanded metal for it and I spray painted it as well. I use it on my deck outside all year round so it needed to stand up to ALL weather conditions. (this fire was 15 years ago and the table still looks good). It's tough as nails too!!

You could try a salvage yard and see if they have an old marble table top. That would be perfect near your front door. Or you could look for an old bread board or a large tole-painted tray. Really, whatever strikes your fancy would be perfect. :)
