I remember when I was younger and they had these crayons out that were a bunch of crayons molded together so that when you colored, you would get a bunch of different colors.
Well, I don't know how thrifty it is, but you can take the left over or broken pieces of crayons, and melt them into a circle or tube shape or whatever you heart desires. That way, every piece of crayon can be used up.:) The kids get a kick out of it.:D
You melt the crayon in a pot and pour it in to loaf pan or small dish lined well (no way for the wax to seep out)with waxed paper.Then let it harden. It doesn't take long for the wax to completely hard; A few hours at the longest. Once the wax is hard, pull out by edges of paper. The waxed paper should peel right off of the crayon mold.
Depending on the side of you crayon block, you could cut it into smaller slabs or blocks. :)

you can also use crayons wth wax to color your handmade candles.

that is such a cute idea. When i was younger, my mother and i would go and collect leaves in the fall and sandwich them between two pieces of wax paper, then shave some of my old crayons down and put them in there too. Then we would get out the iron and melt everything together.

My daughter baby sits 6 year old triplets, she did this with them durning last winter and they still talk about their Heart crayons. she melted the crayon bits in little metal heart shaped pans. That would be a fun winter progect for Valentines day.

I've lined muffin tins with foil cupcake liners too! I loved those crayons growing up :)

Great idea, Deb! I would never have thought of using muffin tins. I'd imagine they'd be just the perfect size for smaller fingers :D

I used to melt them into muffin tins to make huge crayons for my girls. You put them in the oven on low temp until they melt. Keep an eye on them.
