SO, I am tired of spending $4-5 a piece for a greeting card that will more then likely get thrown away.
I was wondering if anyone knows of a good software for making cards. I and my daughter love taking photos and would prefer to make my own. Any thoughts?
For tomorrow and its needs I do not pray, but keep me, guide me, love me, Lord just for today.

If you want to use your own photos on cards, another option is Costco (they also have an online option) where you can get your photos printed on photo paper very cheap (it's actually cheaper in the long run for us than buying photo paper and colored ink). If you do decide to print your own photos, check into the photo paper that's made from stone (really). I can't remember the name of it, but I was given a few pieces to sample and LOVED it.

I have a bunch of that cardmaking stuff too. I like to just add a photo to cardstock and some sundry ribbons/etc and away I go. I sent a picture of my car being loaded onto the flatbed attached to green card stock, to the guy who towed me during my U.P. MI stranding a few weeks ago...as a "thank you" card. I titled it "summer in the UP" :-) |

Printshop is a very good program to start with. You may also want to check to see what 'freebie' software came on your computer. There is usually some type of graphics program included. There are some really good places to buy computer graphics for creating everything from cards, journals, calendars, scrapbook pages, etc at the following sites:

I received the Create - A - Card 2 program for Christmas a couple of years ago and it's a simple program to use. I prefer to print any photos on to photo paper and then glue them to the card I've printed - I don't think that pictures print all that well on card stock. It also depends on the quality of your printer. I have a photo printer that does a really good job. The good part about a card program is that it sets up the print process for you. I'll bet there are better programs than the one I have out there. I always use Photo Shop to tweak my photos.

My husband is a Printer. Often people come into the shop and they buy envelopes that we have no use for. The envelopes are of all different sizes. Maybe you could check with your local printer and ask if they have envelopes that they can't sell. They may sell them to you for cheap. Marly

You can frequently pick up card designing cds on the cheap too if you check stores like Best Buy, WalMart, Target, Shopko, or others. I print cards out on cardstock using a 3M card designing program I've had for yrs. I've printed all my Christmas cards for the past 2 or 3 yrs now but thinking I spent wayyyyy tooo much money last year doing this as the price of ink is horrible and the cartridges don't contain the amount of ink they used to.

If you are looking for a computer program to use, I know that American Greetings puts out one called Create-A-Card that is really good. There are a lot of templates and options for things to use. :)
I love hand making cards, but sometimes, it is nice to have the ease of the computer to help too!! :)

Good ideas, girls thanks. Being that I am techno-illierate, is there a way to print the picture on to cardstock?

If you take your own photos, then, just print them out and paste them onto cardstock and voila! you've got a card. Easy Peasy.

A lot of the farmgirls make their own cards and we have had many card swaps. I stamp or sticker and even use my photos. You can buy cards and envelopes for the photos at any craft store. The cards have a place where you can slide the picture in or there are some that are decorated and you glue the pic on the front. Good luck. MB
