I hated sitting in the dark when the ice storm hit. We had no power, no generator...so seeing as I had..well plenty of time to sit and think (lol), I managed to come up with a way to light our house without power or candles during the evenings.

I took the solar lights from my landscaping off of the stakes, and put them on hairspray bottles throughout our house. During the day I'd put them back outside to charge.

It was great lighting, didn't have to worry about going to sleep with them on, and it didn't cost any extra money.

Our power was out for two and a half weeks. Good times.

Just a little tip from Kentucky.

Hugs,
Chaunzee

If you do have a generator, stock up on LED Christmas tree lights for your emergency kit (the smaller twinkle lights) - a string of those use a just fraction of the wattage a single lightbulb does & lights up the room well, reserving your genny power. My in-laws get hit by hurricanes & power outges regularly & swear by it.

Thought you would like to know, Teresa. I picked up those solar lights for my daughter. Your idea was so timely. She is using them now! Thank you so much again.!:)

Great idea. My daughter is moving into a house w/ no running water or electricity soon. I was going to buy lots of flashlights. But now....

Fantastic!! I have a new set of solor lights, waiting in their box, ready to put together and stuck out in the yard. Better get that done, never know when the lights may go out. Great Idea!!

Brilliant! I went 15 with no power in a big ice storm here about ten years ago I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for some solar lights on sale. Thank you for posting this...
