Posted - Apr 27 2007 : 9:18:17 PM I had most of the Nancy Drew series when I was growing up. Unfortunately I gave them (and my Tom Swift books) away. Now I'd love to have them to read again!

Posted - Apr 27 2007 : 08:45:10 AM I'm going to have to look up Cherry Ames at the library for my dd! Sounds like something she'd be interested in.
We're going to read Nancy Drew together. We just joined a quilting club at the library and we're doing a mystery stitch. Thinking it's going to be a Nancy Drew theme.... ![](icons/icon_smile_big.gif)

Posted - Apr 26 2007 : 7:40:48 PM I loved Nancy Drew when I was young. Also read the Hardy Boys! I've never heard of Cherry Ames. It would be fun to find some for Missy since she's nurse.

Isn't it funny to read some of the things that the Cherry Ames books talk about (procedure wise). Our medicine has come a long way since then, but sometimes I think it would be nice on the nurses to back in time a bit when more ladies became nurses and things seemed to move at a slightly slower pace :)

Posted - Apr 24 2007 : 9:27:16 PM I read all of the Nancy Drew books and the Cherry Ames ones too. Last month I saw Cherry Ames books advertised in one of the nursing magazines that I get. Shoulda bought 'em!
Funny....I've been a nurse for 30+ years and it's nothing like Cherry said it would be =)

Posted - Apr 24 2007 : 2:26:39 PM I found "Cherry Ames: Senior Nurse" at a local antique store. It had that fabric cover that was reddish-pink. I was thrilled! It was only $4! There is another there that I haven't read yet that is the same cover but is about $20. I will probably wait to buy that one- maybe they will reduce the price :)

Posted - Apr 24 2007 : 11:22:56 AM I read every Cherry Ames book at least twice. I couldn't get enough of our nurse-of-all-trades. What adventures she had!! To think that was....50 years ago? I'd love to find some of those old books now! I just located my favorite childhood book, The Thirteenth Is Magic. It took me years, mainly because I couldn't remember the title or author. But it's such a treasure, I'm glad I found it. Now I'm looking for the sequil, The Summer Is Magic. If anyone comes across it, please let me know. Thanks!!

Posted - Apr 23 2007 : 09:13:38 AM I too have read all of the Nancy Drew books. I loved them all. I even read some of the newer one's in the later 80's that came out. I think I had up to book 34 or something when I was growing up. I coud devour one a weekend. Between that and the Cat Who books, I was in heaven.

Posted - Apr 23 2007 : 06:12:24 AM How funny! I never did read Nancy Drew (but I still might! )...but I DID read a lot about Trixie Belden and her sidekick Honey. Those girl detectives really did lead exciting and glamourous lives, didn't they!

Posted - Apr 22 2007 : 01:44:53 AM I used to save up my pocket money to buy books and Nancy Drew was one of them (they are all still at my mum's house - she is always asking when I will take them with me!) I also would buy Trixie Belden and of course all the Christine Pullein-Thompson, Margeurite Henry and any author who wrote about horses. Misty of Chincoteague was my absolute favourite!

And she was always so clever. One story sticks out in my mind. It had a storyline that dealt with dolls and one had poison in it. I also remember that she dealt with the local Gypsies a couple of times. :) I always thought she had a pretty glamorous life :)

Posted - Apr 21 2007 : 8:35:03 PM I never read Cherry Ames, but I absolutely loved the Nancy Drew books. I read every single one that had been printed by the time I was in 8th grade (1974). I re-read them over & over again. I loved the idea of a independent 18 year old girl detective with her own convertible!
