Is listening to an audiobook count as reading a book?

I have stacks and stacks of books lining my bookshelves over 2000 at last count-I have always been a voracious reader, but lately since a botched hand surgery two years ago I am unable to grasp a book comfortably for any length of time and decided to try 'listening' to an audiobook online. I am HOOKED! Currently, on novel #14 of the "Maisie Dobbs" mystery series. My question though...Is listening to an audiobook count as actually reading a book?

Your thoughts?

I have to drive 20 miles daily to get to and from work. Audible books have become a necessary in my life.

Especially if you get a talented narrator! I, too, listen almost exclusively, as I drive A LOT!

Absolutely, Melody! You are still enjoy the story! And just think, you can multitask while listening, too! Imagine the number of audio books you could get through!! May even put your 2000 books to shame!! :-) I love to listen to audio books in the car, too. I'm sorry to hear your hand surgery didn't go as planned and is causing you discomfort. I hope you still have function and holding a book is the least of it. Hugs to you!!

Yes, listening to audiobooks count! My husband is very busy with work and is too tired to read when he gets home. I have been getting him books for the past 3 years that are audio and he listens intently to them whenever he is driving. We have also used audio books for our vacations when we are driving. We have heard all of the Rex Stout, Nero Wolf series on cd plus own the books and have the TV series on dvd. Even so, they are our favorite vacation books to listen to.

I do tend to skim when I read so listening to an audio causes me to hear every word, which is a good thing! No matter what, keeping reading in whatever format works best for you.
