Posted - Mar 29 2021 : 1:39:32 PM I just finished reading 'Blessings and Hardships'''.by Brigitte Kirchhoff.. it's about a German girl during Hitler's Regime. It is the Author's Biography,, Her name is Brigitte and was born in 1935.. my mother , Brigitte was born in 1934... The memories the author shared are much like the stories (about life during Hitler's Third Reich..) my mother shared with me... One can almost hear the sirens going off,, the screaming and sobbing.. one day you are greeting your neighbor, and the next day, Gastapo are dragging them out of their home.. like my mother said.. our lives were changed forever.
What's very interesting is,, and I have noticed this... is that the older people of post war Germany (like my grandparents) wanted to talk and not forget the horribleness of War in hopes the next generation will lean from it.. but,, the younger generations,, like my uncles and my family/friends want to forget,, to not remember the War..
But through it all, the Author maintained her faith...
It's not everyones kinds read,, but I totally emersed myself into the book....
and now,, for my next book to read.. "Once Upon A Time".. (Princess) Grace Kelly-Rainier

Posted - May 02 2021 : 2:21:33 PM Andrea,, yep,, it happened... and for people to pretend it didn't happen and want to wipe out the knowledge of it in the History books.. only allow for it to happen again.
My mother was raised in war torn Germany... and her father was adamant that we do not forget the atrocities that Hitler and his followers committed.

Posted - May 02 2021 : 06:02:46 AM I agree, it is very important that people learn about this. I recently read The Plum Tree. I had a hard time reading it. It was terrible but I finished it because I just had to know the ending. The writing was terrific, it was the historical facts that made it so hard to read. I don't think I can read another book about hitler or nazi Germany. I have a friend who told me she knew a woman that wore long sleeves every day. The hottest day of summer she word long sleeves. My friend finally asked her why. The woman showed her the tattoo she was given in a concentration camp.

Posted - Mar 31 2021 : 4:17:48 PM I am very interested in this era of history and thanks for sharing about this book. I think I am going to look this one up and read it after I finish my biography of FDR. We are in 1938 now and he knows the war is coming at America faster and faster. The history of the first half of the 20th Century was critical to the story of the World.
