So, I've decided to put out a print edition of Apartment Farm focusing on local food (local to Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana and Michigan) (The "Get Local Guide") that will come out in July.. I'd like to ask people in these states to contribute articles on the following topics:

– Interviews with a local farmer, grocer, or artisan.

– How to articles (for example, home brewing, preserving food, windowsill gardening, etc.)

– City guides (what farms, markets and independent stores are available in your city or town?)

– Articles on value-added products (like soaps, candles, crafts and other artisan/farm products)

– “Definition” articles (define “organic”, “heirloom”, “CSA”, etc.)

– Family histories, as they relate to farming, gardening or cooking

– Recipes, including the history of the recipes and/or ingredients

I'll be taking submissions until June 1st, so if you're interested in submitting something, just email me and I'll provide more details!

Primarily IL, WI, IN and MI that focus on local food. But I will take articles from others in other areas if they are more general in nature, for example, defining "heirloom" or something like that.

What type of articles are you looking for? I thought you just wanted articles from people in the IL area?

Just wanted to let everyone know this is still happening! I hope everyone is having fun writing their acticles. Feel free to send me submissions anytime, but just a reminder I need everything in by June 1st.

If anyone is interested in doing a farmer interview, I have a template of questions I put together for my own use. If anyone would like a copy, just let me know, or I could post it here.

Also, if anyone would like to reserve copies for distribution locally, I plan on having the finished document in PDF format, that way everyone can print copies themselves to distribute freely. This will save me printing and mailing costs and keep distribution simple. I also encourage everyone to post the PDF on their blogs/websites.

Happy Writing!

I'm so excited about the level of interest here! I just wanted to drop a note and share the articles I plan on writing so we don't have duplicates. I'll be writing the following:

- Chicago city guide
- an interview with a local farmer (I welcome more interviews, though)
- an article on farm intenships/education
- family recipes with history (the more the merrier here, also)
- photos of our local farmer's market (I'd like these in conjunction with an article)

If anyone else wants to submit anything, don't hesistate to post here! :-)

Liz, it would be great to have you contribute-- city guides sound good, or whatever else you'd be interested in. :-) Deadline is June 1, so plenty of time.

What other things are you looking for Amanda? I could do some city guide stuff on where I'm living now and on the area where my parent's farm is. Or if you've got something else in mind just let me know. What's the deadline for submissions?

Also, please make sure you include your etsy shops, blogs, and websites on what you submit-- I want to make sure readers know about you guys! Additionally, if you have a local farmer's market, craft fair, or know of a local grocery or shop let me know how many copies you want to distribute there. This is not a for-profit (or even a break-even) project; just a labor of love, so printing costs are on the house. :-)

Guidelines are it should be essay length (a couple of pages, no hard and fast rules) and I need it in a Word document so I can do editing and formatting. If I need to make any major edits to anyone's stuff, I'll submit my changes to the author for approval before printing it. I'm welcoming photos and other graphics to accompany articles, ideally they will be .jpeg files.

Eren, either of those or both would be great. The deadline is June 1.

Sue, glad you're interested. How about a how-to article on making herbal home remedies?

I'm so glad everyone's so excited about contributing! :-)

Hi Eren, glad to have you! Whatever you would like to write about would be great. I haven't had any volunteers for how-to, value-added or definition articles, so maybe one of those would interest you?
