I miss those days---have bought so many discarded books with the cards still in them. Life has changed so since we were young. I had a young man tell me how much better he had it because we did not have cell phones in the seventies. I told him ---NO WAY---we had so much fun back then that you will never know about!

Back when I was in seventh grade, I took a (slightly older) book out of the school library, and the name above mine coincidentally was my Aunt, who had checked it out 12 years previously.

Not exactly a popular book...

I remember those library cards. I loved the look and feel of the library before it went high tech. I miss using the card catalog. Now we just look up books on the computers. Thank goodness there are still books on the shelves! What I miss the most, though, is the quiet, peaceful atmosphere. The library was almost like sacred space. Not that it's become tremendously noisy, but it's no longer a place where even a whisper was used sparingly. I love old libraries that still have lots of gleaming polished hardwood and great gothic architecture. When I was young, libraries seemed like magical places. They still do to some extent, but it's not quite the same.

Katmom---I so agree about modern tech! Love it and hate it, this computer sure saved me when our phone went out and I slid my truck over the hill. Emails saved us--still no phone but all is well because of tech! I choose to live in the woods and risk a tree on my phone every month or so. Tech is great if you use it right. Thank you Hughes Net to coming to our holler---lol! Grace---I am going to learn how to put pictures on like you do. It is great.

The re-shelving of books hasn't changed Winnie! I was a volunteer at my youngest son's jr. high LRC (learning resource center, no one seems to know what library means!) and the re-shelving was never ending. I am waiting for the day our public libraries make us re-shelve our books since we are already doing the self serve when it comes to checking them out.

I DO!!! I also remember volunteering in our school library and learning how the check-out and check-in process went and then helping out at the front desk for students. Of course with that came all the re-shelving all of those returned books!!

Oh my goodness, yes I remember those. Look at that all handwritten, it is missing the date stamp.

I do miss the old library cards. It was fun in grade school to see who read which books. Now we check the books out electronically ourselves at my library. I can't recall the last time I spoke with one of the librarians.
