Posted - Sep 07 2016 : 3:48:53 PM To help celebrate our Apple Pie Sunday coming up September 25, I picked up five extra copies of a most darling children's book for a giveaway.
Apples to Oregon: Being the (Slightly) True Narrative of How a Brave Pioneer Father Brought Apples, Peaches, Pears, Plums, Grapes, and Cherries (and Children) Across the Plains (Golden Kite Awards)
In this thread, do share what kind of apple sweetness you'll be making for our farmgirl celebration. I'll put your name in my apple stocking hat that Winnie made for me and one of my grandgirls will pick five recipients on Apple Pie Sunday.
How about the little apple cozy Winnie also made for me so I can easily take an apple to town in my purse? In this photo it holds a Duchess of Oldenburg apple from our mascot tree.

Posted - Sep 24 2018 : 2:20:56 PM This recipe is pure cooking art! Not only are they beautiful to look at, I bet those apple roses are off the chart delicious too! Have a fabulous Apple Pie Sunday, MaryJane. I hope you and your family have a super fun day indulging in apple goodness. With so many apple varieties to choose from in the grocery stores and farm markets, I am already thinking about the sweet cinnamon scent that will be wafting from coast to coast and up North to our Canadian Farmgirs!
Hehehe, Apple Pie Sunday here at MJF is rapidly becoming one of my very favorite of all holidays!!

Posted - Sep 24 2018 : 10:01:21 AM We published this fabulous recipe in our magazine quite a while back (Dec/Jan 2017) but it’s so unforgettable I dug it out today so I could make them for our Apple Pie Sunday treat. Thought I’d share it here.
APPLE ROSES PREP TIME: 45 MINUTES | COOK TIME: 17–20 MINUTES | MAKES: 12 ROSES
Dough: 2 cups flour, plus more for dusting 2 T sugar 1 1/2 t baking soda 1/2 t salt 6 T butter 2/3 cup buttermilk 3 egg yolks 1 t vanilla
Filling: 4 Pink Lady apples 1/3 cup sugar 3/4 t cinnamon 1/2 t nutmeg 4 T butter, melted
Special equipment: mandoline slicer
1. Preheat oven to 425°F. Line a large baking sheet with a silicone baking mat or parchment paper. 2. Make dough: In a medium bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. 3. In a small bowl, combine buttermilk, egg yolks, and vanilla. Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour in buttermilk mixture. Mix until dough forms. Let dough rest for 10 minutes. 4. While dough is resting, prepare filling: Fill a large saucepan halfway with water and bring to a boil over high heat. Meanwhile, core apples. Using a mandoline slicer, slice apples into 1/16"-thick rings. Cut rings in half and add to boiling water. Boil for 2 minutes, drain, and rinse with cold water; set aside. 5. In a small bowl, combine sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg; set aside. 6. Dust a clean work surface with flour and roll dough into a 16" x 18" rectangle. Brush the surface of the dough with melted butter and sprinkle with sugar mixture. From the 18" side, cut dough into twelve 1½" x 16" strips. 7. Assemble roses: Add an overlapping line of apples to one strip of dough, hanging apples off the “top” edge slightly. Roll dough and apples up jellyroll style to form a rose. Transfer rose to prepared baking sheet and repeat process with remaining apples and strips of dough. 8. Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown. Cool slightly before serving.

Posted - Sep 11 2016 : 08:37:27 AM oh yes i love using the apple plates for apple desserts. a kind gift from ddmashayekhi. today is apple cider sunday for us. got apples picked and press washed off. Not alot of apples this year, as we had a late frost. But will use all that we have. We all love using sweet apples for cider. You can drink it right out of the jar. Alot of our apples are baking, and they work fine too. Just need some sweetening to drink. enjoy!!
