Anyone else read this book? I'm enchanted! It's amazing; while that's Minnesota and I'm in Illinois, I look at the pics and think "These are my people."

It's nothing like the place I grew up in. This is a quiet place of Good Enough, of hot dishes and wear it out or use it up, where conspicuous consumption is what happens at the tavern on a Saturday night. This book is magical in it's simplicity; I'm so moved by it. Beautiful bare bones text by Garrison Keillor, and amazing black and white photographs by Richard Olsenius.

Funny how a book can make you wistful for where you already live.

To find out where to listen to PHC in your area, check out their website: http://prairiehome.publicradio.org/

I had the great joy of going to see a live broadcast when GK and cast did their show from Buffalo last month - and the best part of it was getting to meet him afterward! He is one of my favorite writers...he even signed my copy of Good Poems (he edited it and wrote the forward). What an articulate, funny, and humble man :-)

Hi Happymama: GK is still on each Saturday night at 6 p.m. You can probably find it if you go around the lower end of your dial. So worth the time each weekend to eat dinner while listening to the show.

Have to get the book. It's the only one of his I do not have.

I've read other books by GK, but not this one. He is a great writer though...you can totally picture Lake Wobegon just after a few paragraphs.

I read this a before Christmas and it's now on my list to look for at the used book store. I absolutely love Keillor and wish I could find his show (is it still on??) on satellite radio. I need to put that on my to-do list!

I got sidetracked and forgot to say what I meant to say! I agree -- this is one of those books that comes along and takes your breath away. Beautiful in its simplicity and message.
