I forgot to mention, given the book is/was written the early 1960’s depicting the 1940’s the language can be a bit offensive …
But considering the ‘Jim Crow’ era,, there was ( not excusable) a different mindset in certain societies/communities..
And while I would like to think we have progressed,, just 40 miles down the road, there still exists ,, that antiquated mindset.
:>(
Again, a very good read about mindsets in society, but very offensive-derogatory language.

That sounds like a great read, Winnie. I'll have to look into finding it.
I've heard of that one, Grace but I don't think I've ever read it.

I have been reading about American history from 1900-1950s all year long. But recently l found this book titled " The Uncertainty of Everyday Life 1915-1945" in America by Harvey Green. It was both fascinating and informative about how our Nation faced many trials and tribulation with a major crippling Great Depression and two World Wars. Most of us were born after WWII and have experienced a long run of better economics with higher wages and affordable housing and medical availability. The effects of all the big three disruptions I mentioned had a huge impact on the lives of middle and low class people for generations. We have come a long way but we have more issues to work on as world populations have grown and climate changes are challenging everyone. I recommend this to anyone who wants to know more about how we got to where we are here and how life was for our Grandparents and Great grandparents.
I bet you might feel the same amazement as me about what was happening all those years when parents were raising families.

I have been on a Freida McFadden reading spree. I have read The Tenant, Ward D, and The Housemaid. I am currently reading The Housemaid's Secret. All really good books if you like psychological thrillers.

Sounds good Dawn, I will get it after I finish reading The Saints of Shallow Hill by Donna Everhart.
A fabulous historical fiction novel set during the Great Depression in the turpentine camps of North Carolina and Georgia.

I found this nonfiction book to be very informative and it gives a fair factual picture of the American prairie. I hope you can find it at your libraries, it is a new release.

Debbie I was afraid to read Scarlett when it first came out as I loved Gone with the Wind but I was pleasantly surprised! I think a good job was done with the story and I really enjoyed it as well.

I am sharing this book Review of Scarlet: the sequel to Gone with the Wind, that Hean Pici sent me and said I could share. It sounds like a wonderful book so I ordered it from Thrift Books this morning.
I ran across this delightful book quite by accident while surfing the net. If you and/or your Wildflowers are lovers of Margaret Mitchell's classic,
"GoneWith the Wind", then you will adore this book --
Scarlett: The Sequel to Margaret Mitchell's Gone with the Wind
by Alexandra Ripley
I've often wondered whatever happened to Scarlett. Finally, we get the rest of the story. She tries desperately and unsuccessfully to reunite with Rhett Butler, but he still doesn't "give a damn." About half way through the book Scarlett moves to Ireland, the land of fairies and leprechauns and long-held superstitions. With her typical manic energy "The O'Hara" as she comes to be known, calibrates her moral compass and carves out an empire and . . . well, you just have to read the book to see how it all turns out.
Have a Happy Week

Big Hugs,
Debbie

Great book suggestions everyone. I am currently reading Molly MacRae's Highland Bookshop Mystery series. She is an author from IL and has also just released a new series called The Haunted Shell Bookshop. I also am reading the books written by biologist Thor Hanson. They are very interesting and informative in a way for everyone to understand how our worlds climate is changing.

Keep reading & sharing!

Marlene, me too. My oldest is very interested in the Titanic and has been for years. His curiosity has spread to the rest of us and we love watching documentaries on the Titanic.

I finished this book yesterday. It was a little bit slow getting started, but in the end the story was good. I learned a few more things about the Titanic and it was interesting reading about real people who were on board the ship. It even sparked my curiosity to do some extra research into the Fortune sisters. I can only imagine the impact the Titanic had on the survivors.

Yes Sheila, it's a new book by Rick Steves. I really enjoyed reading it and my husband did listening to the audio version, narrated by Rick himself. Hope your library has it.

That sounds like a really interesting book April. Thanks for recommending it. I am currently reading "Close to Home" by Thor Hanson. He is a biologist and this nonfiction book is about discovering nature just outside our door. I've enjoyed his book so much that I plan on reading the other 5 he has written.

I am reading Rick Steves "On the Hippie Trail". It's about his trip as a 23 year old traveling from Istanbul to Kathmandu in 1978. It is really interesting and humorous . A great and informative enjoyable read.

I just finished reading Project Hail Mary, by Andy Weir about a month ago and am now reading another book by him called Artemis. They are fiction and I am paraphrasing; a mixture of science, suspense, and humor. If you like some science fiction that is not real complex they are both good books.

I checked another book off my TBR list!

This book didn't make it to the top of my list, because the first 3/4 of the book moved slowly. The last part of the book was great and kept you on the edge of your seat. Trying to keep up with all the crazy turns was great! I enjoy more faced paced books but overall I felt like it was still a good read and would recommend it.
