Hey sisters! I'm putting out a call for suggestions on books for my farm library. I need books on raising, breeding and keeping dairy cattle, pasture management, home dairy businesses, cheese making and other assorted similar topics.
Thanks!

one of the best books I read about dairy cattle was by Juliette DeBairacli Levy. A very interesting lady and she used herbs for a great deal of her medical care of cattle and her Afghan dogs.

Thank you Heather =) I've got Mary Jane's Book. It's lovely and one of my all time favorites. Thank you also for the info on Acres; I am a serious info sponge and love reading just about everything.

Annika,
Nice to see you back on the farm!!! I also suggest you get a copy of Mary Jane's book - it's wonderful. Another great place to find all kinds of informative books is Acres. They have a magazine you can subscribe to, but they also have a bunch of books. I always have a few on my wish list. I'm sending you an e-mail too.

Carol, now I have a #1 wish on my Christmas list :) I've been away so long, that I didn't even know that there was a Heritage Jersey board. Thank you!

EDIT: Update
Well, the Heritage Jersey forum looks so enticing that I've registered to join. Thanks again. I hadn't had much time to look at it until now.

Hi there, Annika!
You're in luck, because you can find all those things - and more - in MaryJane's latest book, Milk Cow Kitchen. It's jam-packed with practical advice about everything you'd ever need to know about owning a dairy cow, including milking, vet care, and breeding. Then, MaryJane gives you 75 farmstyle recipes using dairy products and a complete how-to section about making all kinds of cheese. And it's made right here in your hometown!

It's getting rave reviews:
"Eye candy extraordinaire! But, there’s more to it than that. This is the first book I’ve found that really tells you HOW to “have a cow” without having a full-fledged farm ... and there are oodles of recipes, including 15 cheese recipes that I’m dying to try—even before I bring home a cow!"

You can order an autographed copy right from our website:
http://shop.maryjanesfarm.org/Milk-Cow-Kitchen

You'll also find lots of good resources on MaryJane's Heritage Jersey Organization chatroom, where milk cow owners chit-chat daily: https://heritagejersey.org/chatroom/

"Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, red wine in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming 'WOO HOO, what a ride!'"
