After seeing the movie that is coming out, our family started talking about it. Then we all realized that not one of us has read the book. I just got a 1925 copy from a library to read.

For anyone who's interested, NC writer Lee Smith has a new book, "Guests on Earth," that is a fictional account of Zelda Fitzgerald's last years. Zelda was institutionalized for around 15 years at Highlands Hospital (a mental hospital) in Asheville, NC. Smith had family members who'd been patients there as well, so that and the fact that she was intrigued by Zelda, prompted her to write the book. Zelda died there in a fire. She was identified by her ballet slippers, which she always wore while painting. Through her novel, Smith tries to answer lingering questions about Zelda's death. Just something to think about once you've read "The Great Gatsby" and/or seen the movies.

I finished the book, but the DVD hasn't arrived. Maybe I can see the new movie soon too. My time to read is down right now.

I just ordered the DVD from the library. We are all interested in this venture. Hubby is interested now too.

I just read it last year. It really wasn't what I thought it would be, but it was still good. I'm still debating whether I'll see the movie or not. A Robert Redford version does intrigue me though!

I didn't even know there was a Robert Redford version too. I will have to see if I can get that in the library. This is something we never read in school.

i read it in high school and it was ok. we watched the robert redford version and it was good.

I read The Great Gatsby years ago in high school. It was one of my favorite books and I really enjoyed the Robert Redford version of the movie. I know I have an old copy of the book in storage somewhere so I'll have to see if I can dig it out for a re-read.

I always like to read the book before I see the movie. Seeing the movies first spoils he book for me. Will have to see if I can get a copy. Actually, I didn't know it was a book first. Thanks for the information.
