Every night before bed I read to my little one. We are in board books and he loves to turn the page for me. Some nights that is all he wants. I though would love some other books to read after a year of the same stories. We have gone to the library but many of those books are "overused". Anyone have suggestions for good titles?

I love Shel Silverstein. His books of poetry are absurd and silly. The poems are so short and entertaining, that I can pick up a book and read a poem during a meal or while the kid is putting on her shoes. My grown children still quote some of his poems at random times.

My girls like Barnyard Dance and other Sandra Boynton Books. Fun books
They also like Tom and Pippo books.

I know how you are feeling. My son loves me to read the same book every night. He loves curious george, and we have a collection of them. We read 3 every night and he can almost quote them now. He use to love "Goodnight Moon" and it is really cute. Have you looked on Amazon? I got a few books off of there that was in good shape and only paid 1cent plus shipping. So about $4.50 a book. The only thing I did not like was that you cant combine shipping with other books, since they come from different sellers. Good Luck!

Do you have any Sandra Boynton books? Those were some of our favorites! We also enjoyed classics like Goodnight Moon, Goodnight Gorilla, 15 Minutes til Bedtime, Max and Ruby. Eric Carle's ABC book is fantastic because each page has a secret slide window to reveal the animal the letter is about. My youngest loved that one! Those are some just off the top of my head. If you want more ideas, I can go look in our toddler book stash and get you the titles. We love books around here! :)

Investigate "Usborne Books." Look for a consultant near you and host a party. It's the BEST way to get some REALLY nice books for a small amount of money. Sometimes it's best to look for a specific publisher, than just one author. I like Usborne books, but have to admit sometimes their subjects are a little shallow. DK is wonderful. Consider them. They have neat books with "touchy-feely" sections that are so fun for beginning readers. I loved these when I was a children's librarian at our public library. We had a few, and they circulated frequently. However, because they aren't the most "sanitary" we tried to avoid purchasing them. Sad, huh?

heather, I think it will be board books for a bit. I do have several Dr. Seuss books and a collection of Winnie the Pooh. Since he likes turning pages and not quite ready to not tear I'm keeping those in reserve.

Are you trying to stay in board books, or venture out? There's some dr Seuss board books that aren't bad. And I really like these two board books that I have. One I was given, and I liked it so much, I searched online, and found there was a second in the series, but it seems like they are out of print. I searched high and low and finally found the second at a used book store, so you too may be able to find them at a used book store.
They are by Bless Moo (yes bless Moo). One is a alphabet book (the original I was given). And right now I can't remember what the other was about-I just found it not long ago, after looking for about 5 years! But, it is my favorite alphabet book ever. And it's a board one, cute, and kind of teaches that God created all things-alphabetically! lol They are medium sized books (so large for board books)
Other then that we love McCloskey, Eric Carle, and Iza Trapani - a twist on old classics, like I'm a little tea pot, but added a bunch of lyrics to the original. All hers are based on older classics, like baa baa black sheep, little tea pot, and so on. But, really imaginative.
I get the Eric, and Seuss and Curious George and such as that, mainly at Khol's. They have 5 dollar books, that change about quarterly. So every three or so months there is a different author or series available, with about 4 books, plus the matching stuffed animals for sale. It's always the larger hard back books, which are worth usually 10 to 20 dollars, but it's a charity thing so they offer them for 5 and it's a good deal for us, and the money goes to Children's hospitals supposedly.
