I am attempting to write a western. I guess you could call it a "western romance at this point but it is a clean one. For authenticity I have found several websites on western slang but I would like to buy a book. I've seen several on the internet but I was wondering if anyone would have a suggestion?

Oh...watch Rio Bravo...one of my favs. My absolute fav is The Ballad of Cable Hogue with Jason Robards or Cheyenne Social Club with Jimmy Stewart.

I totally agree with watching movies too. We just watched a very old western recently.

I'd recommend watching a bunch of old John Wayne movies and writing down the slang as you hear it. Then, if you need more clarification, go online. It's more work, but maybe not, as other Western nuances will be there too?????

I don't have any reference books here, but found those two by searching on-line. They might help.
