Nancy Gartenman mentioned tthaat she found this book at the thrift shop and I knew I had a copy of it somewhere. Got it out last night and stayed up late.
It is very richly written. Sometimes I have to stop and just think about the beautiful sentence I just read.
I highly recommend
Michele

One of my very favorites too! The 1945 movie directed by Elia Kazan was excellent!

There is something so inspiring about a story of a young girl growing up in a hardscrabble borough of New York at the turn of the century-It's a real classic!

One of my favorite all time books. Ever. I have the original copy that I neglected to take back to the A.M Yealey library (sshhhh!!!) at the age of 10.

I plan on giving it to my daughter when she is of age to understand the power in those words. When I lived in a craptastic area of Brooklyn as a 19 year old, I looked everyday to see a bit of green and found one weed tree in the courtyard that was my "tree" and my hope that reminded me of home.

"Hey, I've got nothing to do today but smile..."

Yes, it's a classic. I still think of their nailed-down coffee can savings in the closet, hidden from the father!

That's my next book to read. Found mine at the thrift store a few years ago. And then To Kill a Mockingbird.
